  1. In 1975 me, my sister and bil went on 2 week camping thru the west. On the way we were to camp on the beach area of Salt Lake. One second out of car we decided to get a motel for the night! So many biting insects we ran and put our feet in the lake, ran back to car and got the heck out of there!

  2. Glad you still visit parts of Utah. Brings back a lot of memories for me from 2017/2018 when visiting from New Zealand. The reflection in the lake IS stunning. My favourite photo (hanging on our living-room wall) is of my wife standing on the waters edge with herself, distant mountains and a rich blue sky reflected in the mirror-flat lake.

  3. Kind of like when the "great inland sea" dried up, leaving the Great Plains high and dry. And there weren't even any people around to use up all that water. That probably smelled petty bad at the time too. Just saying.

  4. I've always wanted to visit the site in the Great Salt Lake where Smithson's Spiral Getty is. I'm wondering if there is any water surrounding it anymore. Maybe it isn't there anymore. I'd like to see it someday.

  5. Many years ago when I was in Boy Scouts we camped on Stansbury Island. Not sure if the Brine Shrimpers are still working or not but there used to be a couple boats that harvested brine shrimp (Sea Monkeys). Got to take the wife out to Antelope Island someday as we pass that are often enough. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Great videos!

  6. I've been to antelope island a few times – it's a great daytime excursion. Kind of sad to see it shrink away. When you do your drone footage, can you tell me what speed you're using? Do you film at 60fps and then slow it down, or just use slow motion mode to get those great panoramic shots? Cheers!

  7. love that overhead drone footage of you in the colored water! nice one! I was wondering about walking on the salt, if it was hard and hurt, and then you answered my question. thanks for taking us here so I could see it, as I will probably never go here myself…..the hordes of flies alone will keep me away……another great vid, Tristan. Thanks!

  8. Hey, cool shot with the new invisible selfie stick at about the 4::15 mark! I've always wondered about these islands when I pass by on the freeway. I'll have to check them out the next time I'm down in Utah.

  9. Thank you for this wonderfully nostalgic video, for me anyway. Worked for the BLM at the north end of the Lake in the early 80’s. That area has such a unique beauty and history. There is another mountain group south of Stansbury called the Newfoundland mountains. Very remote and had difficult access, but strikingly beautiful.

  10. Man, I’ve really sold the Great Salt Lake short. I remember floating there as a kid and being amazed at the odd extra buoyancy. Do they still swim there, or did the beach get too long and mucky? Amazing island summits. Really never considered even visiting them. Outstanding imagery as usual. Thank you.
