A little while ago we went to Fraser Island (K’Gari) with Hayley’s brother for just a nice few days away – no filming, no work, just a good-old quality camping trip.
We didn’t even take our good camera but low and behold, the few clips we took for fun were just too good not to share, so we have turned them into a little bonus episode for you to enjoy.
In this video we take the Mantaray Barge from Inskip Point across to Fraser Island, where we then beach drive up the beach and stop in at Lake Mckenzie for a beautiful afternoon swim. After enjoying the white sand and turquoise water there, we take the beautiful 4×4 track through the rainforest to get back out to the beach and find our camp for the night in the Maheno Camping Zone.
We fish off the beach for tailor before continuing further north the next day with the mission to get to Sandy Cape, the northern tip of Fraser Island. We cross Ngkala rocks and find an epic camp right at the tip but then were faced with the devastating experience of encountering a baby humpback whale that had beached itself and was still alive.
After our time at Sandy Cape, we were off to the West Coast of Fraser for a few days at Awinya Creek, which has now become one of our most incredible camps we have stayed at to date! And after our sad encounter with the baby humpback, we were blessed with the most extraordinary opportunity to swim with humpbacks on the west coast.
Fraser Island never disappoints and really is a paradise for anyone who loves camping and 4×4 adventures.
