You should look up the history of Desert Center and Stephen Ragsdale. He bought the desert in 1921. He built that cafe and mechanic shop soon after. He built those cabins for the people passing by along with the pool. You'll have more of an appreciation next time you pass by. Maybe, you will go see the former Desert Centers owner's summer cabin and his desert sanctuary next time. He used to run the mechanics shop until his son took it over.
I live right down the street from that abandoned house on Dillon RD and I was just there about a day before you filmed there. Wish I would've bumped into you and took a picture with you. My wife and I watch your channel all the time. We laugh cuz we keep missing you within a day or 2 at the local spots here in the Coachella valley.. Cabazon Dinos, Dillon RD or Desert Center. We go off roading a lot here in the surrounding mountains and have found a lot of spots that would interest you. I mean we test ourselves when we go off roading to find places that other off roaders miss. Lots of weird stuff and things to look at and film. Next time you come thru hit us up for a tour…. The Nude Bowl, (not really lol) <<—— Interesting story tho. The Devils canyon, Ocotillo Tree, Berdoo canyon, Coyotes Den, Refuge Overlook, Dillon's Peek, The Minions Friends… just to name a few. The frontage road between Cabazon and the Whitewatwer exit is part of old US99 which ran from Mexico to Canada. It exits today as city streets and CA-86 and CaA-99 as well as Hwy 99 in other nortwest states. The salsa at The Wheel was the best I've ever had and I have not found a suitable replacement since it closed down.
I didn't read all of the comments already posted, but if someone hasn't answered your question about the mascot on the building its a Seal. Back when I was a kid there was a chain of gas stations in LA called Harbor Gas. The Seal name was Harbie the the Harbor Seal.
Cool vid !a side note,the green restaurant at about 34 min is a former Stuckeys travel stop.I recognized the shape as they were all exactly the same. Stuckey's was an early chain of travel stops that predates our Bucees,QT's etc… They were everywhere when I was a kid in the 1960's
I worked on constructing windmills in Whitewater Pass back in the summer of 1985, I doubt they're still standing. They were not sophisticated like the ones that you see now in this video. Man, it was brutal work, always above 110F by early afternoon, no shade whatsoever. I was burnt to a crisp.

Desert Center is nearly 4 hours from my land in Kern county. I can't wait to see these places for myself!
