Ford says Trump’s tariffs could cost jobs | CTV News Toronto at Noon for Jan. 14, 2025

Premier Doug Ford says U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s promised tariffs on Canadian goods could result in the loss of 500,000 jobs in Ontario, creating the need for billions of dollars in stimulus spending.

“These tariffs will affect every single person…It’s not going to be good; I will tell you that right now,” Ford said at a news conference in Toronto Tuesday, as he announced another pillar of his so-called “Fortress Am-Can” plan to stave off the threatened tax.

  1. why are we pretending canada isnt the leader of the world? we have the most fresh water in the entire world. lets stop giving people water and electricity and watch them beg for our forgiveness. when they have no water to drink canada becomes the new dubai. this is all fear mongering and lying to sell out candians and our resources. WAKE UP

  2. Anyone vaguely familiar with President Pig Eyes knows that not only will he not be moved by Canadian job loss, but will likely use it to bolster his case for Canada to be the 51st state. Ford is well intended and maybe even passionate but he doesn't have the brains or the finesse to deal with trump.

  3. Mayor Chow, why is it the fault of those Torontonians who are working so hard to put food on their family table? Why don’t you stop the influx of accepting too many people in Toronto or better yet use the City money wisely. On my opinion, Torontonians are bombarded already with high tax and high cost of living adding more tax to them is going to make them poor. Just saying. 😢

  4. In the meantime during negotiating trade with USA, we should create new markets in Canada. Invite other countries into trade agreements for products and services. Stay in Canada for vacationing, put a hold on immigration. Increase border security. Tentatively put tariffs on choice products and services for America.

  5. (Daniele Smith breaks with ALL other premiers on response to Trump’s tariffs) – If you ever need proof that Alberta ONLY cares about itself and not the rest of Canada or its people, THERE IT IS.
