Genshin Impact’s Fontaine was a mixed bag. As a group of podcasters with various degrees of AAA game industry experience, we are here to close the curtain on a flawed but often brilliant chapter of Genshin’s development history. In this fun and flirty half video essay half podcast video, let us bid adieu to the land of Focalors and turn to the blazing sun. Why are we sick of lore? What succeeded and what didn’t? Did Arlecchino steal Furina’s hair? Will Kujou Sara get her hot dog? This time, on The Shade Chamber: a Genshin podcast.

  1. I 100% agree with you guys and the whole theme behind Justice and the finale of the archon quest. I think the way they tried to justify Neuvillete ascending in power status is that the reason the justice system was working to a degree was because of her and Furina's role hidered that.
But I really didn't enjoy what they did with the change of theme, from the actual tangible repercussions of skewed justice to the whole "Primordial sin" which wasn't even a sin at all, it was looking to "Have it's cake and eat it" with Furina. Presenting her as someone at fault for the lackluster judge system while also absolving her of her mistakes and misshandling of her role as nation leader by showing us she was never selfish because she had an even bigger burden to carry

It feels like with Inazuma, where they wanted to tell 2 different stories that didn't mesh well with each other.

An incompetent divine figure with absolute power that is actively harming her people and the personal tragedy of said divine figure. But at least Ei IS somewhat blamed for the state of Inazuma. Furina is completely absolved.
But that's only because they sidelined the whole concept of corruption and mafias to the side and focused instead on the divine aspect of the story.

I feel like Sumeru was a bit more succesful at doing both the personal story of the divine being and rearranging the nation, but that's mostly because we weren't fighting the divine being

  2. Guys, you are lore enthusiasts and you still call Fokalor (according to “Ars Goethia”) Fosalor (according to uneducated and bad-decision-driven eng localisation team).

  3. 56:15 That's what she wants you to think. Wait till she turns into a giant Swan

1:08:00 According to the description of the furniture:
"A metal mechanism model with a complex structure. Said to be a reproduction of the device installed in front of the Court Region Waterway Hub, which is in turn regarded as one of the most famous works showcasing clockwork meka design aesthetics.

Though the device itself does not represent a breakthrough beyond the basic principles set down by Lord-Artificer Alain Guillotin, but the people still regard it as a symbol of the continuous advances in "mechanical beauty" over the centuries. Or perhaps it is as the critics say: An eternally turning device is like the ceaselessly turning wheels of time…"

Also, was reading my old discord messages and apparently i managed to predict that Andersdotter's name is (well, similar at least to) Anya M. Andersdotter in the most wrong way possible: by thinking that Mary-Ann (or Ann Mary) could be Andersdotter

  4. 38:00 Nitpick there, but the fate of Fontaine becoming flooded still comes from Celestia, the whale just "happens" to be the reason for the waters rising in this instance. It's the whole "No matter who pushes the vase, the end result is a broken vase" from Wanderer's interlude. If the whale didn't exist, something else would happen to raise the waters, basically. Maybe not super satisfying, but the setup was there.

  7. Hoyos always had amazing animation department. It's just that until recently they were mostly just doing Hi3 stuff and occasionally some HSR media stuff. Since Hi3 ended it feels like they are spreading out that kind of secondary media support to their other games is all.

  8. I like the comparison between pentacony and fountain for artistic core concepts display. Something that could have work for fountain is Louisiana vibes, with jazz and French undertones
