Fogo Island – The Foggiest Island In The World For Landscape Photography

Brent’s behaviour in this video is totally unacceptable. If this ever happens to you while on a landscape photography shoot, you’ll know what to do.

We arrive on Fogo Island, Newfoundland and the compositions are plentiful. Fogo Island is most likely the foggiest island in the world and we took great joy in capturing sunset and sunrise during blue hour.

I try to get Brent to help me with some light painting but he refuses. I get the last laugh with a lucky discovery I’m careful not to share with him.

We bump into an old sailor turned poet who educates us on the history of Fogo Island and earns a round of applause from Amanda who shares some Newfoundland roots.

A beautiful Newfoundland fox pays us a visit but does that stink belong to him or have I been skunked?

Despite the abundant photo opportunities, the cold is wearing us down and we can no longer tolerate the harsh conditions that the hardy locals find comfortable.

We top off our visit to Fogo Island with a hot breakfast before moving on to discover our very first ice-berg.

Why is this village called ‘Tilting’ and how savage is the fragrance in Brents rental vehicle? Who gets the best shot and what’s my face like after a night on the chilly coast of Fogo Island?

There’s really only one way to find out.

  1. As usual, Amanda stole the show again. Wondering if you got a chance to visit Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia. Probably the most photographic spot in NS. Packed with tourists during the day but sunrise and sunset are not crowded and the harbor anytime.

  2. I never understood why you shot with a Sony camera (even if it is common in landscape photography to heavily edit the images in post and the colors as well) but I have to say the images you get out of the Hasselblad are on another level. Of course i loved your old videos, too, for the humor 😅

  3. NL does not have skunks (nor raccoons, snakes, and ticks are very rare). There are some advantages of living in the middle of the frigid nowhere. I have no experience with fox pee, but I see other commenters do. Now that it's July, we've put away our winter toques.

  4. That looked like such a hoot. The shot at 17:37 gave me the feeling that it was not a shack but only a facade or stage prop; open the door, take one step and you're in the drink. Can't wait till your next masterpiece.
