Remnant is a key object in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. Remnant is the term for a soul that possesses inanimate objects, making it the reason behind the paranormal occurrences in animatronics. It is believed that William Afton started his killings as a way to obtain remnant in order to gain immortality. Although this is impossible since William only discovered remnant after the original 5 animatronics got possessed. Remnant also appears as a collectible in Five Nights at Freddy’s AR: Special Delivery. But with everything we’ve come to learn about the series, is it possible that what we know is a lie? That’s what we’re exploring today. Let’s do it.

  1. It’s possible that the only reason willam Afton still hunts children like Gregory is to collect remanent to keep him self alive because his body is falling apart from all the burns and every thing so he uses powered he gets to make other victims do it for him because his body is slow and growing weak

  2. When you look at it, in the Fnaf books, Charlies mask when she possessed the puppet, contains her agony. It doesn't contain her soul, just her agony. So if the mask doesn't contain her soul, does that mean that the other parts of the animatronics that survived the fire could contain their agony? Anyone agree???

  3. As far as the books go, keep in mind that Scott has told fans a few times that while the novels do have similar things in common to the games and they could help explain some things; they belong to a different continuity and are not directly canon with in-game lore. As for things in Security Breach, there are still plenty of missing pieces to the story. Maybe with any DLC coming in the future, more might be uncovered.

As for the theories about Vanny and Gregory, bear in mind that that some in-game content and altered dialog contradict them. For the thing about Vanny and Vanessa being the same person, the audio CDs that can be found in SB suggest that they are two separate people. The CDs are divided into two sets- 17XX and 43XX. The subject in the 17XX set has only one therapist, has a positive attitude of the decor, doesn't eat candy, and has a troubled past where their father made them lie about their mother in court. Subject 43XX dislikes the decor, loves candy, claimed to have a tragic past involving their family that was later proven false; and went through several therapists with past ones having died. Also the whole theory of Gregory being an animatronic modeled after the Crying Child is pretty much DOA when considering that Roxy's in game are discribed to have a far better depth perception and higher resolution and clarity to aid her in kart racing. Gregory looks different to Freddy not because he sees an endo, but because he sees the boy in far better detail than before. Also the lines where Freddy says that he feels that Gregory is "broken" is actually part of dialog that was altered before the game was released. The original dialog had Freddy say that he sensed that Gregory was injured, and detected deep cut on his leg. The dialog was changed to avoid talking about injuries.

  4. i think u forgot that your not dealing with a soul here ur fighting a literal virus its glitch trap so it doesn't matter if William is dead in burnt trap caused you got glitch trap who will act as a soul for burnt trap literal virus!

  5. Michael will come back because in the books there was a story which said they had to fight a trash monster so it could be the blob now controlled by William. And all endings might be true uf you piece them together

  6. Another issue with using fire to get rid of remnant is everything related to shaping metals: forging.
Wouldn't forging metals with remnant remove the soul energy from it? Does this mean any metal containing it must have it applied afterwards? Can blacksmiths work with remnant?

  7. Ok Amazing theory but I’m going to say actually knowing the books and the series as a hole, there are some big issues and I definitely couldn’t do something like this but I can still point out some flaws
1: Micheal Being the stitchwraith does not make sense for two reasons, one The Stichwraith has Two souls inhabiting it, reason two the two spirits inside of the stitchwraith are children one is not an adult like Micheal
2: Crying Child Gregory Makes no sense has little proof and brings his character down as a hole. The only evidence I’ve seen is this: Freddy saying you are broken, Freddy saying you look different to me, last but not least Gregory being able to go in charging stations. Let’s Explain each of these 1 you are broken was a apparent censorship of you are bleeding. 2 you look different to me Freddy is looking through completely new eyes for him and just maybe he can see a bit of Gregory’s skeleton or the colors are processing different to how the eyes are made. And the last one is decent proof there’s nothing that can explain this except the likely thing of a plot hole the devs thought it would be good to do this and later down the like they put Gregory in it alone for climatic effect of moon dragging away Freddy.(god no ones actually going to read this because it’s way too long)
3: I forgot but if you see this good for ya for reading a rant about a theory poking holes at it because I’m tired
