FNAF fans who just WATCH? (Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach)

Why is it that so many members of the FNAF community have never played any of the games?

  2. I think really the main reason has to do with replay value. Horror games are most effective on someone's first time through because you have absolutely no idea what you're getting into the first time. This is why horror games will usually balance this out with replay value by way of either multiple endings, collectables, lore hidden in notes, extra unlockable content, or a combination of the four. If there's no replay value, then there's no need to ever go back to the game.

This is what I feel early FNaF games had a problem with and why most don't really play them anymore and just watch lets plays. The only sense of replay value you ever had in those games were the custom nights, at least for the first two with the second in particular having hidden playable after death minigames that revealed bits of the lore. The third one got rid of the custom night all together in favor of aggressive mode and made it to where there were two endings which while not a bad idea the lack of a custom night did hurt the game in the long run. The fourth one did the same thing while Sister Location brought back Custom Night in the form of DLC, however, it was really watered down and restrictive in comparison to 1 and 2's and all you had were preset modes instead of being able to pick the AI settings yourself.

Pizzaria Simulator is where I feel replay value started becoming front and center as in Pizzaria Simulator there's barely a limit to what you can and can't do. Ultimate Custom Night was basically as it says, an ultimate custom night and nothing more but was still replayable with the amount of customization you could have. Help Wanted and its DLC Curse of Dreadbear offered more to do and even included unlockables and hidden items for you to find in the form of the tapes. With Help Wanted and Curse of Dreadbear in particular, I feel like Scott and Steel Wool were testing the waters for more potential replay value.

This, I feel, was ultimately realized with what we got in Security Breach. Even though there's not a lot in terms of replay value, it is still arguably the most expansive and replayable FNaF game to this date despite the horror elements being the most toned down in the series to date. But because of how replayable it is it's what will draw the most attention as people often want to feel like their money was spent on a game they can play over and over and over again without feeling too repetative.

  3. We can see Scott trying to get people interest with sl (sisters location) and pizza sim he try to change up the game play to get people's interests by changing the format of the games. He try to get people interested in the games how to change the games without changing the tone why not change the game play but it seemed like it didn't work now we are stuck with the not very scary game does it get us startled yes but does not get us scared. fnaf fan games is the only thing that get us scared something like fnaf plus

  4. I’ve played 1, 4, sister location, VR (not beaten), pizzeria sim, AR, & Security breach. I’ve also read all of twisted ones. 4 was where the games got good enough for me to harass my parents to get it for me. I still think 4 is one of my favorite games of all time

  6. Guilty as charged. The reason why I haven't played since fnaf 1 is that I hate redoing and starting over, esp for long stretches of game time. When I could be looking at retrying 1-2/5ths of a game multiple times with the difficulty ramping up, I'm not interested

  7. I've played half of fnaf 1, fnaf vr and security breach

Fnaf 1 I felt was more tedious than scary, vr returned the fear making it enjoyable, breach was an open world sudo sandbox

  8. I will say I am more of a watcher or theory enjoyer of the franchise and I only played the first title to night five on the switch. However I did purchase all the games but ultimate custom night on switch and have not even play theme ha ha.

  9. I just generally am a scaredy cat, that's the main reason I haven't played any
In fact, I only got into FNaF like a year ago, when my sister was talking about it having lore, which I never knew about
And honestly, I'm more into the story, characters, and other things like that anyway

  10. So far, I’m trying to get into playing the FNAF games. Rn I’m on FNAF 2 Night 4 after beating FNAF 1 (with the exception of night 7). When I was younger, I really wanted the games but I couldn’t really convince my parents to buy them, and later on I was just too scared to play them. Happy to see that I’m finally getting into it though.

  11. I’ve always played every fnaf game before looking at any gameplay or theories or anything. It’s just how I do things. I even get all the endings and look at all the secret things before watching any type of YouTube gameplay or theories or stuff like that. I also do this because I get experience everything newly instead of spoiling everything for me so I know what happens. Even if it’s not a horror game I still do this. I’ve always prefer to do this as it helps my experience with the game. I do basically the same for movies, animes, mangas and tv shows as well. But if people don’t wanna do this I completely understand why and I’m fine with that

  12. I understand why so many people get the dull experience from just watching let's plays. Personally I've played every game because I enjoy it for the strategy aspect. It's fast paced and requires focus, strategy, and repetition. It's simple and the skill it takes only requires memorizing repeated actions and quick thinking. It satisfies my adhd just right haha I love just playing them all over and over its just really fun for me. I feel like that's a really unpopular opinion that I think fnaf is just really really fun to play over and over

  13. I've been a fan of this game since it came out, I'm just not a huge fan of playing video games myself, but I love watching others play games and I love horror. It's just more fun for me that way, I can't even watch people play any of the 1-4 games because it stresses me out so much. But I have a Bonnie plushie and I love to listen to the weird lore.

  14. "why don't fans play the games"

Money lol. Gaming is a terribly expensive hobby. Lots of people don't have access to that kind of cash for luxury items like games. I enjoy watching the games. I just like it idk. It's fun to watch. That's my reason for not playing anyway. I just don't have the funds to pump out that much money for a hobby. A luxury. I gotta get food and pay rent.

  15. I never play a fnaf game and I don't plan to. I don't like horror in general , but I get interest in the story seeing game theory videos. When I realize the lore was hiden in a mountan of jumpscares I decided just watch videos explaining the lore in a non scary way. It is enough for me.

  16. I've played FNAF 1,2, 3, Sister Location, UCN, and Pizza Sim but never actually finished them due to me not handling the jumpscares(fnaf isn't scary I just get startled by the jumpscares) and due to me not being a big gamer in general I'd rather watch it. Plus most people probably don't wanna pay money for them due to parents saying no or have other more important things to do.

  17. I haven't played a single game because of 2 reasons: my mom doesn't allow me even though im of age, and my computer is ass and def wont handle it. I'll stick with the playthroughs

  18. I’m a watch only fan and only No kill gameplays because I have a weak heart and scare easily. I tried to watch with gameplays and had trouble sleeping after work. I will do my best to support. I’m getting the coloring book today.

  19. this is pretty offtopic, but I'm not a fan of you using that one specific example from the vanessa tapes AGAIN as an example the franchise is being directed to kids. the therapist very likely explains what objective/subjective means in that tape in the way she does because the patient she is speaking to is probably more childlike or just straight up younger. we still don't know who she is talking to in that tape, so there is a very good chance the "oh, you don't know what that means, do you?" is actually supposed to be more of a hint at who the patient is than pandering to an audience children through the 4th wall. assuming that steel wool made the decision to explain what the word subjective means in this one specific tape that the majority of the people who play the game will never hear just to try and make it more clear to children is a bit of a stretch when they already know matpat will explain it in a way understandable by children anyways

  20. When fnaf came out I was in 6th grade and I never really played the games because actually playing them is MUCH more scary than just watching somebody play them and wasn’t tryna shit my pants.

Im in college now and I still don’t play them for the same reason. I’ve bought a few of the games but I probably only have 2-3 combined hours in all of them.

  21. As one of the people who haven't played FNAF but enjoy videos about it, the main reason I don't play the games is I don't enjoy horror games, I'm a massive coward. But I ended up watching game theories videos on FNAF and really enjoyed them. I thought the lore was interesting and I'm not sure if it's just me but I find it rare to find entertaining mysteries in media.

Which got me gravitating towards FNAF videos. I like to watch the lets plays and try to figure out what the various clues mean in a bigger overall story. That said, I just don't want to try and immerse myself in stories from other games at this point. Maybe I've just had my fill of this kind of storytelling from FNAF?
