This might be one of the coolest things Iβve built. Hank from Hamiltonville Farm needed a beefy recovery winch for a skid steer. We can do that! https://www.youtube.com/hamiltonvillefarm
Wow! I have a new favorite fab video!!! I could (will) sit & watch this every day. Fabing is like building. It starts with an idea, goes through a plan and several changes and finally the fun starts. My son used to say, "Dad, you just say wham, bam, give me a hand and it's done." We just grin 'cause it is fun when a plan comes together. At 77, I watch & enjoy. Not too bad!
Saw your remote tree thingy in background. How about converting it to a remote snow machine, plow on one end – blower on other end. Of course cameras on each end. Then you can sit in front of your fireplace and clean your snow. Even use a racing simulator for the indoor control. Something to think about, haha.
Great Build. Now if you could make a bunch of money with one off engineered projects, it would be great. The CNC Plasma table is on my wish list. Thanks for the high quality videos.
You said that you should drop something down the tube in case someone cuts it open. I would suggest that 10mm socket that no one can find along with the 9mm wrench in every tool box that doesn't fit anything. What a treasure that would be to find.
The amount of welders developing melanoma from the welding arc radiation is disturbing, think about covering up bare skin for the sake of your lad having dad about. You only need enough to block the UV. Sorry to sound like your mum!
Oh its a neat little thing. Id call it a skid steer mounted, stationary log skidder.. ((Please)) next time tell em to go get a CAT 528 log skidder. Grapple or line machine there choice. . In the world of logging, id expect to see that boom bent within a year or less. The shock loads of a winch kicked in to lock from neutral, with a 30,000lb-ish tree on, is staggering.!! 3/4" or bigger cable is commonly used, on large high powered equipment.
I sure had a blast! Thank you for spending time with me and doing such an amazing job in the winch build!
You need to keep the shop doors closed to keep the pigeons out!
why didn't you do that plate on the mill before you tacked it on?
Great fab show. A little collaboration always helps the algorithm too.
I hope it isnβt a little too light duty.
Will Hank's CAT steer even move this contraption (π) smoothly? edit: guess I'll have to subscribe to find out.
What was the winch rated at?

Great job! Ive thought many times building something like this for my skid steer. Put another one on the project list for the future.
Hank gonna feel like a pelican after this. No matter where he turns he will have a large bill in front of him…
I do believe Heavy D Sparks has built the biggest baddest one to date!
Great Video!
If you would have used fiber rope like Yankum instead of cable, the roller at the end could have been 3-4 inches
Labor rate is 50% higher if they watch and twice as much if they help.
I enjoy watching your videos but to help with your liners a lube pad and wd-40 helps that is what i use on the suitcase mig welders

Thanks for sharing.

Very good explanations π..
Building things is SO rewarding,, when they work.
Are you using flux core wire?????

I was literally thinking KD right before you said it
I am beginning to have the same problems with my mig welder and the wire sticks to the tip. Thinking I might have to start replacing parts.
Nice engineering, very impressive. Good job.
Excellent
Great build
the drilling at 35:00 triggered me…a little cutting oil would really extend the life of that poor bit!
Dang! Thats one badass machine Wes.
"Out of sight, Out of warranty". Love it!
I didn't know that there was structural and stress failure analysis in SketchUp. Pretty cool. Which menu option was that? π
I WANT the green Buick LeSabre in the background of the final shot. The winch is cool. How much for the Buick??
Brilliant fabrication vlog Wes! Really enjoyed watching it emerge out of bits of cut metal!

Epic design and build and a great watch. Nice XS650 hiding back there at @9:25
Great to see you guys working together; two of my favorite channels. Did βy'allβ have any problems understanding Hank'?
Hank went from watching Wiley work to watching Wes work π
