Interesting games, thanks for the recommendations!
Speaking of which, I would be interested in your take on Kenshi, a pretty weird kind-of-cult kind-of-RPG game I'm interested into trying out.
As an addition to games one could play in this summer's down time,
focusing on action oriented older games that hold up very well to this day even in the visuals' department (hey, it's summer time, you know?),
the 1st two titles that come to my mind:
– Sleeping Dogs (kinda-GTA3 style open world game, but with parkour and cool hand-to-hand combat)
– Max Payne 3 (3rd person linear shooter with stylized bullet time and a gritty looser hard boiled voice over)
Thanks for your videos!
Here are some shorter experience recommendations that may get forgotten by some:
Gunpoint – sidescroller stealth puzzler with really well written plot. ~3 hours.
Inside – somewhat psychedelic dystopian sidescroller puzzler. Very unique quality game with very striking audio and visual design ~4 hours
Dark Messiah – impale, stab, burn and ofcourse kick in a source engine murderfest first person game. Plot is laughable, but that is not why you play this so called 'adventures of sir kicksalot deathboot'. ~10 hours
Ronin – sidescroller tactical semi-turn based cyber ninja game. ~6 hours
I dabble in DRPGs. For anyone interested in something like this for DRPGs, absolutely check out Potato Flowers in Full Bloom.
Really good recommendations, thanks!
To add up to "Call of Ctulhu", if you liked it – you might also be interested in checking out "The Sinking City". Developed by the company, that previously was concentrated on Sherlock Holmes games, it combines investigations and some shootouts with lovecraftian monsters, plus some very light RPG elements. Can be quite janky and buggy at times, but overall it's a pleasent experience.
I've actually been thinking about revisiting both Biomutant and Vampyr after not finishing them the first time around. They had some things I enjoyed, and some I didnt, but nothing that was a deal breaker, I just kinda dropped them lol.
An another interesting mainly narrative kind-of-RPG is the Life and suffering of sir Brante.
Control really gets repetitive by the end – I couldn't wait for it to end and play something else instead and I rarely feel this way about a game
Is the maneater dlc any good?
The Forgotten City is a pretty good short game too.
Wow, you're a dad. That's awesome. How old?
Subnautica is my summer choice
Another couple of short games worth playing are the Shadowrun games.
As for kidfriendly games, I would like to add Kena: Bridge of Spirits. Both combat and exploration are really satisfying. Imo beats the Biomutant by a mile.
Interesting list, thanks!
If you enjoy man eater check out Odell Lake on the Apple II's in your schools computer lab for more immersive fish action.
I wish the price better reflected the length of these games. Hard to justify paying 10-40$ on a game finished in one sitting.
Control has one of the best set pieces of any game I've ever played. Def skip the arenas and side battle stuff, it bogs down the game immensely. If you stay on the main story train, its quick and perfectly paced.
Can wholeheartedly second the Vampyr recommendation. I've played it through twice and have loved it each time. 💜
I never got very far into vampyr, but did like it. Remember the voice actor for the main character Dr. Reid was really good. A lot of times voice actors in games can be hit or miss, but this fit really well. Will have to try and finish the game one day.
solid list!!
I would recommend Firewatch a nice chill game about exploration and mystery =)
I couldn't deal with the super tight FOV in Control. I feel like half of TPS/FPS games have this issue, thankfully some have mods for it.
Tyranny. Any list of short, must-play games MUST include Tyranny. It is known.
These seem nice and all but they look like the type of games that I'd play once and then forget about them. Summer is the season of vacations, isn't it? I think people would have more time now to play long games.
All great recommendations!
Maneater – done last Christmas/New Year from your earlier recommendation
Call of Chtulhu and Vampyr – also done
Biomutant – currently with no sale for 60 Euro… gonna wait for good deal on that one
So it seems Control it is as I got nice Ultimate Edition
Outer wilds has become the game that I think every human being on earth needs to play. It’s the perfect representation of what the art form of games is meant to be.
I have control and Vampyr but never played em. Might try them out now
The Sunken City is a fabulous H.P Lovecraft game if you enjoy Call of Cthulhu
Short games I recommend you guys try out:
Journey – ~ 2 hours – One of the shortest yet sweetest experiences you can find in gaming.
Inside – ~ 3 hours – Technically the best dystopian puzzle platformer set in a fascinating world.
Little Nightmares – ~ 5 hours – Amazing horror puzzle platformer also set in a fascinating world.
Little Nightmares II – ~ 5 hours – A great sequel to the previous title.
Blazerush – ~ 6 hours – Great couch or online co-op driving game, super underrated. It's fast, it's funny and it's worth every penny at full price.
Firewatch – ~ 6 hours – Lovely game with some interesting storytelling that leaves you thinking about life and its meaning.
The Pathless – ~ 8 hours – Another puzzle game set in an absolutely gorgeous world with fluid movement, great sense of speed and ancient ruins to explore.
Chorus – ~ 10 hours – A stupidly fun arcade spaceship shooter with great movement mechanics and combat abilities.
The Last Guardian – ~ 12 hours – The most underrated game for me, it's a miracle it even released after 10 long years of development, delays and changes but a remarkably memorable experience came out of it in the end. Anyone with a Playstation 4 or 5 should play this!
Larger games with reasonable playtimes for what they offer:
Weird West – ~ 15 hours
Hades – ~ 18 hours
Dishonored – ~ 20 hours
Prey (2017) – ~ 25 hours
Deathloop – ~ 25 hours
I could go on, so many great out there. Personally I'll be playing Aeterna Noctis, Dark Devotion, Death's Gambit, Caveblazers and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate HD in the following weeks, and all of them are on sale on Steam right now so go check these out as well! 😀
Great content, as always!
I'd add Enslaved: Odyssey to the West to this mix, as it is a fantastic story-drived action adventure game, with fun combat and amazing visuals, even though it is from an older game. Also – the OG Mirror's Edge. Because it's awesome. 😀
I was hoping for a list just like this one, thanks a lot good Sir!
Control's atmosphere and art direction is through the roof. I heard good things about the game, but when I finally got to play it… It really exceeded my expectations: it's not just good, it's excellent.
I have to say, best played if you have beefy hardware, RTX capable, because the visual and graphical experience is probably the most noteworthy aspect of it.
free comment.
Vampyr, Control, and Disco Elysium are purchased and in my backlog! Slow months just let me catch up.
Ember. 10-15 hours. Nice little CRPG. 👍👍
Hmm. Just started elden ring. I think I made a mistake
Great. Short game recommendations are so few on YouTube. Much appreciated
I played Vampyr when EGS was giving it out for free and it was probably one of the best gaming experiences I had in the last 5 years if not more.
30 hours, short?
Maneater is absolutely fantastic.
