Synopsis:Finney Shaw is a shy but clever 13-year-old boy who’s being held in a soundproof basement by a sadistic, masked killer. When a disconnected phone on the wall starts to ring, he soon discovers that he can hear the voices of the murderer’s previous victims — and they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.

  1. oh HELL yeah im so glad you watched this movie. its among my favourite movies of 2022, its so original and unique. every kid helping Finney to escape with something different (the bike lock, the freezer etc) really hit me. especially knowing they're all dead. something not a lot of people noticed is that all boys had bruises that are consistent with SA, that's why the blonde one (cant remember how to spell his name rn) was so angry.

  2. So I know a lot of people didn't like this movie but I genuinely loved this movie. There's just enough information that we're not overloaded and we also don't get a reason why he's doing this. And I like that we dont know anything about him or why hes doing this. I like that we don't get that answer. And I know that's what some people don't like. But I love the masks and how he can take bits and pieces off and put more on to make it look differently. And the voice changes that he uses, how itll get darker and growly but then it'll sound lighter. The dad can fuck off. I hate the dad. He should have died. I don't care they could have run him over with the police car by accident but he was a violent abusive asshole and I hated him so much. The little sis though. She's that bitch you want in your corner at all times. I always laugh at the "what the fuck Jesus" part.

  3. Seb I have a fact for this movie that may or may not be true

you may not notice it but if you do I wanted to say Thank You So Much for being you!

    ok the fact is

When Finney Blake asked what The Grabber was doing down there if he wasn't going to feed him

and when the Grabber said "Just to look at you….. I just wanted to look at you…"

it's because I believe he's a pedo and the reason why he was crying is because Finney woke up before the Grabber could.. you know…
Grape him but remove the G …

like I said I don't know if this is true or not but if it is that would explain why he was crying when he said it

  4. Saw this movie a few days ago for the firt time and I can honestly say that it has become my favourite horror/thriller movie. It simply is amazing, scary, suspensful and really good payoff. Finney used all of the things the others called him for in the final battle. When the kid tought him to fight I had chills and for me it is the best scene of the movie along with the moment where Finney is about to kill the kidnaper and aswers the phone with the line "It's for you".
    Anyway, great reaction as always!

  5. Really great horror movie. Honestly I didn’t expect to be this awesome (I knew it has to be good but I didn’t think it would be that great). The acting, the fact this can happen any time to anyone and the masks, Oh I love how different Grabber looks with every single piece of the mask. Really great movie and defenetly one of my favorite.

  6. My review about The Black Phone:

Let’s start by saying that the movie was overhyped and I heard that it was amazing and that Ethan Hawke was incredible, he was good but not close to one of his best performances because I can think of at least three performances way better.

The good parts about this movie:

A lot of horror movies are about cheap jump scares, blood and all that stuff but forget about the story and The Black Phone has a decent story, they developed the character first because a lot of horror movies doesn’t do that and then the audience doesn’t care about the characters, in here we actually care about the character and they did that good.

The child actors, it’s REALLY hard for me to like child actors because usually the child’s can’t act and it’s cringe, but the main kids actors are really good.

And the movie had like one or two decent transitions

Now the only two thing that keeps me from giving this a higher rating. The runtime, the movie is 1h 42m and the movie could’ve benefited A LOT from being a little bit longer because they needed more exposition and backstory on the killer. Sometimes it works not giving a backstory to the killers and leave it open for the mystery but this wasn’t the case, especially when we see him the first time with the mask he gave us a dialogue with information about the place where he puts the kid and that’s about it, they gave us that and nothing else.

My second complaint is that Ethan Hawke even tho he was good for the little screen time he had, he was underused and underplayed. The movie would’ve benefited immensely from just giving like I said more backstory to the character and that way they could’ve used Ethan Hawke range more.

    The acting is good.
The cinematography is ok, nothing crazy but it’s not horrible either.
    The score/soundtrack is ok.
The storytelling you could say something about the pacing maybe, exposition and that could’ve had more scenes with the killer.

My rating is a 6/10, it’s a passable movie but it could’ve been way better if they only worked more on the story and the runtime. Definitely overrated and overhyped, there’s better horror movies in 2021-2022.

  8. I remember seeing this opening weekend. Some of the best jump scares I’ve ever seen. Had me jumping left and right lmao. For a really scary found footage movie, I’d recommend Hell House LLC. Scariest movie I’ve ever seen.
