Coraline is a 2009 American stop motion animated dark fantasy horror film written and directed by Henry Selick, based on Neil Gaimanโs novella of the same name. Produced by Laika, as the studioโs first feature film, it features the voice talents of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, Keith David, John Hodgman, Robert Bailey Jr., and Ian McShane. The musical score was composed by Bruno Coulais. The film tells the story of its eponymous character discovering an idealized alternate universe behind a secret door in her new home, unaware that it contains something dark and sinister. Her friends, a boy named Wybie and a stray black cat, help her set things right and become closer to her parents.

Believe it or not, I read the book a few years before they made the movie and LET ME TELL YOU the book was actually a LOT creepier than the movie so I was very surprised when I heard that it was being made into a movie lol ๐๐ฅฐ๐ฉท
for me this movie is so confusing and the cat is my favorite character
The novel this is based on is creeper in a number of ways, and there's no Wybie either.

The circle of mushrooms is actually a refrence to celtic mythology. It's apparently bad luck to disturb a fairy dwelling because often times you'll bring a changeling (shape shifter) back with you.

love this movie! Watched it in middle school and it became my comfort movie
Some interesting back story is that Neil Gaiman, the author of the novel the movie based on, said the book almost wasnโt published because i believe it one of the editors(?) thought it was too scary for children until her own daughter convinced her it wasnโt, only for the daughter to reveal years after it was published that she lied and that she was actually terrified but wanted to know what happened next lmao
also you guys should watch ParaNorman itโs not that creepy not at all actually but itโs halloween themed, very funny and produced by the same studio with the same form of animation as Coraline

I actually completely forgot that the sound clip that people use in edits and stuff like that was from this movie when the cat says โYou probably think this world is a dream come true, but youโre wrongโ people usually use this sound clip when itโs showing creepy stuff or really sad stuff
