The series is set in a world inspired by various Asian and Indigenous cultures where certain people can “bend” one of the four classical elements—water, earth, fire, or air. Aang, the “Avatar” and the last living Airbender, is the bridge between the mortal and spirit worlds, and the only one capable of bending all four of the elements instead of just one. The Avatar maintains the balance of the world and nature to bring peace, and Aang is now faced with the responsibility of ending the ambitions of the militaristic Fire Nation to conquer the world.     In the category of "series Badd Medicine would enjoy to watch'': Here are my arguments for Blue Eye Samurai:

    1- There is a very high chance that Diamond Dave will have a trip on the cinematography (I know, weird for an animation, but you'll understand after the 1rst episode)
    2-Mason and the Answer will probably entertain and educate us on the stunning scenario, writing and general details that they and only they can point out!
    3- (never the less but one of my most anticipated moment!) I'm anticipating the Oak's usual human reaction to some of the most beautiful yet flawed and complex characters I have seen.

    I hope I made my case, and that I at least teased you be curious about the show,

  6. Modern culture tends to apply modern conditions on preindustral societies. The reason woman typically were not allowed in battle isn't sexism but pragmatism. Men have always been the disposable gender throughout history sent out to fight and die. A society that has say 100 men and 100 woman that sends all their men to battle can easily repopulate as long as at least 1 man comes back alive. Where as a society that sends their woman into battle if only a few return that society is done for.

    This is why there is very few examples in history of societies that had woman warriors and those that did typically didn't last very long due to good old natural selection as if the majority of the woman die in battle they can't repopulate the society and thus it goes extinct. It's easy of people with modern conveniences to think having kids isn't much of an issue but that's cause they only having like 1-3. Where as back in the day having 4-6 or more kids was fairly normal thus that's about 4-6 years or more that someone can't do much fighting, also due to disease giving birth had a high mortality rate and a lot of woman died in child birth. Thus training them to fight in the first place would be a bit of a waste cause also people didn't live as long so that was a much bigger part of person's shorter life.

    All that said in a world with bending I think not learning any fighting is kind of dumb. The should at least learn basic self defense like Ice Walls, basic defense and fall back tactics in addition to healing.

  8. Did you also notice that Katara showed the first signs of blood bending as she manipulated the water through the chi meridians on the wooden man? I think we may see Katara blood bend in the last series.

I liked the fact that they had the whole thing with Yue being that fox – they were able to suggest that she has actually watched Sokka for a long time, because in her dreams she travels in the spirit world so she could have seen Sokka often for all we know. In the animated series I always felt their relationship was rather fast and unreasonable, but here there is a reason to accept it.

  10. I'm one of the few who has not seen the animated series, but I did sadly watch the live action movie, which was pretty bad.

    I was able to understand the story fairly easily, to be honest. It does seem to flow fairly well, I think. I don't pick up on the little Easter eggs, but it is cool watching the reactions when they see them

  11. I notice none of y'all mentioned Katara's story line, but you ate it up in the animated show. This adaptation unfortunately gave Katara the "she's so strong, she has to hold herself back" trope of strong female characters. BS, Katara (and all of the fighters) need to learn how to fight as time goes on. She could barely move water in the first episode and now she's all, "I had it the whole time. I'm amazing! Who needs a master to train me?" Master Samwise here on Youtube does an excellent breakdown on why animated Katara is a boss and live action is . . . less so.

For me Zuko's actor is doing a great job,it was to nice Azula's lightening aleady…Over all the episode was good,Princess is an ice cream bender I suppose? ok… 😉 But that thing with Aang not learning to waterbend is really bugging me and makes no sense,like this was the episode to finally do that since they didn't do that at all up to this point…

  25. What they did to Katara is criminal. Just a complete non factor in this show lol where is the fiery spirit? Where is the girl with a bit of a temper, the leader of the group? The jealous girl that Aang learns water bending quicker than her? (He doesn’t even learn water bending which is the sole purpose of book 1 lol) Her stealing the scrolls shows how desperate she is to learn water bending! There’s absolutely no way I can see her learn blood bending.

    These characters don’t have any flaws and it makes it boring. Sure the visuals are pretty nice but the writing, dialogue and acting are cringe aside from a few moments.

    Taking out Soka’s sexism is actually sexism because it teaches us a lesson, making Azula a sympathetic figure instead of just being crazy, Zhao being comical and completely non threatening, etc etc

    Cmon y’alI know you want to like it. This isn’t good. It’s not. Stop settling folks. We pay hard earned money to watch this stuff. We deserve better.

  26. for me, if I want the original story, I'll watch the original – I don't need this to try to be the original, as the original is nearly perfect. Exploring a different tone and structure while holding on to as many of the story beats as possible is just fine for me.

  32. The live action Lion King did not do well and is a horrible example to use to justify making ATLA shot for shot. 6.8/10 IMDb and 52% Rotten Tomatoes. This may have gotten mixed reviews but got a higher rating from both of those (7.2/10 IMDb, 60% Rotten Tomatoes). And Beauty and the Beast added a lot of new stuff and changed some stuff for the live action, definitely wasn't shot for shot (whole new characters were added). And again with Lord of the Rings something I thought about recently, between the books and the movies they did a decent amount of changes to The Two Towers.

  33. Pitty they did not check how a cloudberry looked like, those berries were obviously bilberries or blueberries. Cloudberries are orange. I love how Sokka was in this episode, he was like in the animation. And the icy disc with Pakkus reflection on it was straight from the animation too, cool.

  35. The problem with this live action is the WRITING (it's trash). They refused to use the source material to write a compelling story. They completely misunderstood why certain things were important (for development later down the line). Instead they gave us way too much exposition and threw the entire kitchen sink at us. Writing 101 "SHOW DON'T TELL".

    Also, spoiler, AANG DOESN'T LEARN WATER BENDING IN THIS SEASON?! On the live action which is wild.

    What they got right was the incredible visuals and we all love/root for the cast. I think if the writing (story) was better we would have fewer issues with the casting. Like even Azula would be fine if they wrote her better (an revealed her at the very end). The fire nation (Ozai & Azula) took up way too much air time in this season that could have been for actual stuff that was in the first season (Book 1: Water)

    I hated everything about Omashu & Bumi and they completely messed with the spirit world. The whole point is that Aang is able to go there (why the heck were Katara and Sokka in the spirit world?!). Bumi is supposed to be a forever youthful "mad genius" who teaches Aang to think out-side-the-box (not a grumpy villain)! He's part of the order of the white lotus for pete sake! I CAN'T.

    Apparently the OG creators worked on episodes 1 and 6 before they left the project for creative differences. That's why they are tolerable. And they misunderstood Sokka, Katara, and Suki characters. They watered down the women rolls. Katara is a mother hen not because she is a woman but because she lost her mother and takes that role seriously (but never mess with her). She is sarcastic right back at Sokka. Sokka is sexist because he's immature and then grows out of it when he is no longer sheltered and has to confront his terrible way of thinking. He ends up becoming an incredible strategic mind who appreciates everyone's strengths. Suki is more than just a pretty face or Sokka's love interest. They missed Sokka really having to confront his narrow thinking and humbling himself to a wise skillful Suki.

    Well rumor has it they are changing show runners (aka writers?) again so maybe this time they will get it. BECAUSE HOW THE HECK DID AANG NOT LEARN WATER BENDING IN THE FIRST SEASON?!?!?!
