  1. Sokka being a bit of a dink is completley understandable since all the men left to fight in the war so he has to be the only "man" in the village. Oh and the whole 100 year old war is also a thing.

Zuko. The journey you will have with him is somthing else all right.

  2. Keep going with it, trust me. Itโ€™s one of the best series ever created and youโ€™ll love it as it goes on. Iโ€™d do anything to be able to watch it again for the first time

  3. Appaโ€™s age is 6/106
    Aangโ€™s age is 12/112
    Kataraโ€™s age is 14
Sokkaโ€™s age is 15, his name is pronounced Sah-Kah
    Zukoโ€™s age is 16
Uncle Irohโ€™s age is 58-63 (age never given)

The bending's are based on real world martial arts.ย

The Bending List is in Avatar cycle order.

Fire bending is based on Northern Shaolin. Fire Nation culture largely draws from Imperial Japan, as per behind the scenes interviews on the originally released dvds.

Air bending is based on Circle motions of Baguazhang. Air Nomad culture is based on Tibet, as per behind the scenes interviews on the originally released dvds.

Water bending is based on Tai Chi. The Water tribes are based on Inuit culture, as per behind the scenes interviews on the originally released dvds.

Earth bending is based on the martial art of Hung Gar.

The Earth Kingdom is largely based on Chinese culture, as per behind the scenes interviews on the originally released dvds.

All music in this show is original, and was created for this show.ย
The soundtrack is beautiful, incredible and perfectly suited to the show..

The Arrow tattoo's on Aang's head, arms, legs, and back are the proof of fact markings, on his body, which directly indicate that he has reached and obtained / is the full rank of an Airbending Master.ย
Appa's arrow is just Appaโ€™s fur pattern.

Most creatures in this world are made up of 2 or more animals from our world.ย
Appa is a combination of both a bison and manatee.

โ€œโ€ฆPower in fire-bending comes from the breath. Not the Muscles. The breath becomes energy in the body. The breath energy then extends past the limbs and becomes fire. โ€ฆโ€ [Uncle Iroh episode 1 Avatar the Last Airbender]

Fire Benders create fire by igniting their own breath energy as it extends past their limbs. Focused breath energy enables the fire bender to control the created fire. Unfocused fire creation is dangerous, wild, and destructive.

This is an American cartoon, which originally aired on Nickelodeon beginning in 2005, so approximately 19 years ago on February 22nd 2005. (Netflix launched the live action version on February 22nd 2024 in honor of its 19th year anniversary. which covers season 1 and some scenes from Season 2 Episode 2. I think they swapped Season 1 Ep 6, into season 2 of the live action, while moving season 2 Episode 2 into season 1 of the live action to keep the Omashu events together, and keep Season 2 of the Live action Earth-bending focused.)

Avatar the last Airbender is not an anime. English is the original audio, and the creators are Americans. This show is NOT dubbed at all. Season 1 has 20 episodes originally aired in 2005-2006; Season 2 is also 20 episodes and aired from 2006-2007; Season 3 has 21 episodes and aired from 2007-2008.

When watching on Netflix, all the multi-part episodes tend to be combined, so you will see a different episode count. The finale is 4 episodes (I.e. episodes 58-61; aka season 3 episodes 18-21)which all aired as a single 93 minute movie, in primetime, in 2008. It was a HUGE event on Nickelodeon. Still one of their highest watched airings ever!

Nothing, is superlative in this show. The amount of tie ins, call backs, and fore shadowing, which occurs is astounding. Every time you watch this show, you the viewer, will see more connections, more fore shadowing and nuance. This show is amazing to the 9th degree, in that way. Enjoy the journey. No filler in this show.

Only episode 11, the least liked episode of the series could possibly be considered filler, but even this episode gets a call back in episode 57 (I.e. Season 3 episode 17). Episode 11 is disliked because it was the episode, after its original airing, which aired whenever, and I mean whenever, there was no new episode for a given week. Fans all excited for a new Episode tune in and groan, grumble, grumble, it is episode 11, again, and again, and again, ad infinitum!!! It was as if Nickelodeon was playing a Groundhog Day movie joke on Avatar the Last Airbender Fans. Episode 11 is fine on first viewing, or on a full rewatch of the series. It is the most stand alone episode of the series, but the fact that it was ALWAYS the episode aired, when there was no new episode for a given week, caused fans to see it as the worst episode of the series, and dislike it because of how often it was aired and used by Nickelodeon.ย

Part of the major excitement for Episode 12, was IT was episode 12! Finally!!! Also Episode 12 is one of the best episodes of season 1, and in the top 10, for me, of the whole show. I can not express how happy and blown away by Episode 12, all the fans were, when it finally, aired originally. Some of that was Hooray!, We finally are getting a new episode, continuing the story, and part was Episode 12 itself in its own amazing way. Enjoy the ride. This show is fantastic.

  5. New sub for ATLA! Let's go!

Welcome to excellence. The writing in this show is superlative. The lore is doled out in exquisitely-measured doses. All of your questions will be answered in time.

Book 1 is very kid-oriented. This show aired on Nickelodeon, but as you'll see, it deals with very adult topics, and the show's narrative gets darker and more serious at the end of Book 1 and into books 2 and 3. Remember that. Remember how great Book 1 was when you reach the end. It only gets better from there. This is possibly the best animated show (and one of the best shows period) ever produced by Western media.

    Ages:
    Zuko – 16
    Sokka – 15
    Katara – 14
Uncle Iroh – ageless and wise beyond measure

Each bending style is based on a real-world martial art. Sifu Kisu is credited as the martial arts consultant for the show. The animators attended martial arts classes to observe the different styles so they could animate them true-to-form, which is why all of the fight sequences in ATLA are SO good.

    Air – Baguazhang
    Water – Tai Chi
    Earth – Hung Gar
    Fire – Northern Shaolin
One character is styled after Southern Praying Mantis.

    Enjoy! Can't wait for more!

  6. This is where the fun begins!!!! I'm so glad you two are reacting to this masterpiece of a series! Fun fact: Dave Flioni, the person who wrote the Clone Wars series also wrote/directed some of the episodes of Avatar! Regardless, hope you like it! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’ช

  7. oh boy you're in for a treat, one of my favorite shows ever, not just animated

I'd say it's sort of similar to clone wars, maybe it starts a little slow/"kiddie" (still good tho) but it only gets better and better

  8. Soooo excited you guys are watching this!!

    Here's a spoiler-free peak at what's coming:

Book 1: This is definitely a Nickelodeon show, but there's some really good stuff in it.

Book 2: How the f**k did something this good end up on Nickelodeon.

Book 3: This is one of the best shows I've ever seen!!

  9. It baffles me how this show does more for Katara's character in the first five minutes than the live action does in an entire season ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ
