  1. Bob Dylan wrote this song for the 1973 movie Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Sheriff Pat Garrett was played by actor James Coburn and Billy the kid was played by none other than song writer Kris Kristofferson. The scene this song was played was after a deputy played by actor Slim Pickens (always played the best cowboy parts) was sitting by a river dying of a gun shot wound in the gut.

  2. The other singer you’re referring to not being as serious is none other than the great Tom Petty of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I think you would really enjoy reacting to any of his music (there’s so much to choose from) maybe try Learning to Fly. Btw, this performance is by the super band, Traveling Wilburys. The band was made up of George Harrison of the Beatles, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynn of ELO (Electric Light Orchestra), the great Roy Orbison and of course Bob Dylan.

  5. To understand the story behind the song rent the dvd "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid".
Set in the Old West, the old semi=retired Sheriff is shot in the gut and knows he
is dying in front of his wife. This song plays all the while.

  6. Not sure if you will see this comment since this is from a few days back but if you want a really AMAZING movie to watch with this song that hits your heart to kingdom come and back check out Lifted (2010). Be prepared to cry and enjoy an Amazing God filled movie.

  7. I just call him Bob. He has been through a lot of phases since early 1960’s . I don’t always enjoy his voice but he has been very productive song writer. Bob and Tom Petty, The Band, have done tours together. A lot people have done covers of his songs like, “All along the Watchtower “ has been covered by Jimi Hendricks and U2 and others. And at least at one time considered the best song ever by Rolling Stones magazine, “ Like a rolling stone “ 😊

  8. Hi Bob Dylan is the reason why we have rock music today. Music was ' who is that doggy in the window' even the Beatles wrote ' love love me do, hey mister postmen ' then they listened to Dylan, made the white album and the rest. And Adele, Make you feel my love when Bob does it, it puts you to shame, sure he doesnt mind the money you made him. Like all the Beatles, Waits, Stones etc. have pointed out. 500 years from now they will still be talking about Bob Dylan.

  9. "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" is a song by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, written for the soundtrack of the 1973 film Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Released as a single two months after the film's premiere, it became a worldwide hit, reaching the Top 10 in several countries. If one goes to Dylan's YouTube channel, and you hear the master recording, for 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door', it is much better than this live performance by Dylan.
