Jackie and Rodney are comedy legends. Jackie was known as "The Great One". His TV series "The Honeymooners" is a classic. Only 39 episodes were made, but each is a gem.
Jackie also did some serious work in the movies "The Hustler" with Paul Newman and George C. Scott, "Nothing in Common" with Tom Hanks, and "Gigot"
I've never seen this one. Very funny. I believe he was married twice. He had two kids with his first wife and got divorced and was single for a long time, then got married again.
Jackie Gleason is one of the legends of television. From the early 1950s thru the 1970s he hosted his own shows and performed skits with different characters he created based on his childhood experiences growing up in NYC. His most famous character is bus driver Ralph Kramden which he performed in hundreds of "Honeymooners" sketches. The character became so beloved and iconic that there is a life-size bronze statue of Jackie Gleason as Ralph Kramden at the NYC Bus Terminal in Manhattan. Frank Sinatra nicknamed Gleason "The Great One". Jackie Gleason also wrote and published hundreds of songs including all his theme music from his shows. This clip from 1970 with Rodney Dangerfield was when "The Jackie Gleason Show" aired from "the sun and fun capital of the world … Miami Beach". To start each show Gleason would sip some "coffee", exclaim "How Sweet It Is !!!" and with the band starting to play music he would look at the audience and yell "And Away We Go" !!! The skits would then start from that point until the end of the hour-long show.
Sad that you don't know who Jackie Gleason is. The Honeymooners is a great sitcom he starred in, and he also played Tom Hanks' father in NOTHING IN COMMON, which is a great movie that's deeply underrated.
You have to realize that on TV shows many years ago all of the jokes had to be "clean". He didn't make any sexual references or use any language that would be censored. Much different than his later appearances. Much of his material had to be left out. More recent clips are funnier.
This show was on earlier in the evening so he had to tell "cleaner" jokes. On the tonight show it was at 11pm or 11:30 pm so the audience was all adult and he could be a little more risqué in his jokes. His club act was so much funnier.
Rodney always fun to watch doing his routines but if you ever want to see another side of him. Watch his performance in the movie "Natural Born Killers". He plays an abusive husband/father. It's not a huge role but he's incredible in it. "Easy Money" for an actual comedy.
Jackie Gleason is a legendary comedic actor. He did a popular comedy TV series called the The Honeymooners in the 1950s. He's also been in movies. He was in the movie "Smokey and The Bandit" where he played a hilarious state trooper. He also had a TV show, as you can see.
I would say that Jackie Gleason was a bigger star than Rodney Dangerfield, but Rodney was around more recently.
Jackie Gleason was also the Sheriff (Smokey) in the movie Smokey and the Bandit with Burt Renalds as The Bandit…good ol trucking movie from the 70s 1977
Jackie Gleason had a variety show, which is something you young'uns are unfortunate for having missed. When I was a kid, there were many variety shows, which comprised comedians, musicians and singers, skits, etc. You may have heard of Carol Burnett. Dean Martin, Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, and Rowan and Martin are some others. I'm forgetting a lot. But today, those have gone away, supplanted by today's voyeuristic reality TV.
OMG, so sad to realize there's a generation of adults who don't know who Jackie Gleason was. He was an absolute legend, one of the greatest comedic actors ever, and a top-tier star. To this day I still watch The Honeymooners whenever I get a chance. It's one of the all-time greatest sitcoms.
His joke style is “one liners”. Essentially a short joke with a punch line. With comedians I think it’s safe to assume brother/mother/wife/daughter labels refer to no actual people. I’m sure none of them like those jokes but hopefully understand:
Old time comedy (1970-90ish)..takes a certain mind set….I'm old, so, I get it…Hard to relate…everything with a grain of salt. But, still one of the greatest time for comedy.
A bit off topic…have you done any Sam Smith music?
Just asking, one of my children are dealing with a cheating spouse…and "Sam Smith not the only one." is very there. If you know what I mean?
Jackie Gleeson is a TV legend and basically created the tv sitcom. This clip is from his variety show done on Miami Beach Florida back when nothing was done outside NYC or Hollywood.
lol, Rodney from the 70's and earlier was funny, but he really hit his peak way later. From Caddyshack to Little Nicky (1980-2000) in movies, and we can't forget Rappin' Rodnety in 1983, lol.

Here's info on Jackie Gleason. The main playhouse/venue in Miami Beach is named The Jackie Gleason Theater. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_Gleason
Rodney still has a thousand more jokes, hardly ever hear the same one
Jackie Gleason was Sheriff Buford T Justice in Smokey & The Bandit, and he was Ralph Kramden in The Honeymooners, one of the funniest sitcoms ever!

Jackie Gleason is the grandfather of actor Jason Patrick (lost boys, geronimo, rush)

This is older and and what was acceptable then was not quite to the level as later in his career!

I would check him out later in his career on the Johnny Carson show
