  1. They're speaking Chinese a lot in this series. It's generally used in place of expletives.

There's some bad news, you're gonna have a lot of questions and unless you're willing to read surplus material you won't ever get the answers.

I recommend The Expanse if you want a show that feels very similar in style and themes except The Expanse got to end satisfactorily

  2. Im sure it's been answered, but Mandarin (Chinese) is the largest language on Earth by population, while English is largest by number of countries. The show mixes the two to get around censors about profanity on television, as well as show the global evolution of humanity over time, much as American English includes quite a number of words from other languages.

  3. Classic lines that Ashleigh missed:
"Well, my days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle"

Saffron: "Iv'e made myself ready for you"
Mal: "Let's just ride right past the part where you explain exactly what that means."

Mal: "Oh, I'm going to the special hell"

Mal: "..but she was naked, and all articulate"

  4. Ashley I love watching stuff like this with you you bring out such colorful language and then I think you and me would be great friends in person. You have that language imagination that my mind and the language could have fun with. And don't worry young lady if you go to hell I'll be there to protect you cuz I'll probably get there way before you.

  5. I could talk at length about River and her "nonsense", but that would be a little spoilery so I'll just say this: in hindsight, everything River says makes total sense.
Yeah, why did fox do this show dirty. When a new Lion becomes leader of the pack, it kills off all other cubs so only his own offspring lives on. it's kinda like that.

  6. "Why did Fox do this show dirty?"
The quick answer is the show was green-lighted by one Fox executive who loved Joss Whedon's previous work and who was fired and replaced by another executive who hated Science-Fiction before the show reached broadcast. The new Fox executive didn't care when or in what order episodes were shown or if the episodes were pre-empted for sports as long as the network reached their contractual obligation and could pull it off the air as quickly as possible.

  7. Shepherd Book is the equivalent of Abbe Faria in the 2002 version of "The Count of Monte Cristo" with Jim Caviezel, Henry Cavell, Guy Pearce, and Richard "Dumbledore" Harris.

  8. Why am I the only person who right from the beginning knew Saffron was a Companion up to something?
The convenience of her smuggling aboard, while pretending to be an ignorant country chick?
And why stowaway if she thinks she's married to Mal? She should have tried boarding with the rest of the crew.
Nah, I got a bad vibe right from the start.
I hate "Our Mrs Reynolds"… and I think part of that hate is reading/hearing how many people like that skank. I mean, sure, ginger, so of course one of the most beautiful people on the planet, but… still a skank.

She's why I would never trust Inara farther than I can throw her; they both had the same training in the most intimate of lies.
The only episode I hated more than this one was "Fart of Gold".

  9. Christina Hendricks is literally one of the most beautiful people I have ever seen. (And if you haven't watched Mad Men, you must!) Also, Summer Glau was a professionally trained dancer before she was an actress. She played a ballerina in an episode of Angel.

  10. They speak a mixture of Chinese and English. Joss Whedon said that China and the US, as the last remaining superpowers, would be the major contributors to the culture in the time of "Firefly" so they mixed Chinese into the dialog.
Darlin', you SO NEED to see "Serenity" and get so many answers!!!

  11. 36:28 there was a change of management at Fox. New people were brought in to developed shows, The show is currently on the air needed to get removed so that the new management shows could get airtime. Since Firefly was such a weird show that they didn't understand It was sacrificed. They showed the shows out of order making the show hard and confusing to watch, they moved around the air time so that it was hard to find (No internet listings of airtimes back then), and they ran a bad marketing campaign misrepresenting what the show was.
Look the executive said it's doing badly we're going to cancel it. And lookey here, I happen to have a show that we could put on in Its place.
Fox could have had a long running hit show that would bring a claim to the network and make a lot of money. But that wouldn't have gotten some executive within agenda show that he wanted on the air.
    Who me bitter?
    DAM STRAIGHT I AM.
