Firefighting aircraft hit by drone

A Canadian Super Scooper plane was hit by a drone while flying over the Palisades Fire. The plane is expected to fly again, but as KNBC’s David Biggar reports, the FAA is investigating as flying drones in a fire zone is illegal and violators can face hefty fines.

  1. Apparently they recovered part of the drone from about a fist sized hole in the wing (not the nose) and the battery they showed that was recovered was from a DJI mini. So being that it's a DJI tell me how it was able to enter an area that should of been geo fenced by the flight restrictions and it also should have an RFID chip in it that should have warned authorities that there was a drone in or near a flight restricted area and identify the owner….So something's not quite adding up right. Either the safety restrictions aren't working as they should (possible) or this is another black mark against drones to add to the list of "evidence" that hobby drones are evil and must be banned. Which the US government is working on legislation to try and do to ban all Chinese made drones, for various reasons with DJI being at the top of the list for sending data back to China. Things like this really aren't the issue. It's the inadvertent spying by hobbyist and businesses like Amazon wanting to own the airspace. So don't buy into all this MSM drone menace bs. 🤷‍♂🙄

  2. From what I seen the Drone didn’t hit the nose like they said here, it hit the L/H wing leading edge and put a good size hole in it.
This means the plane is grounded until repaired.
So now you have one less plane to help put out the fires.

  3. A friend of mine that I see once a year at a particular convention has an engineering company that tests commercial jet engines to destruction. Years ago, we were chatting about some tests he was doing with different size birds, and I asked him about the new drones that were just beginning to come on the market at the time.

He was quite dismissive and kinda laughed it off at first. I pushed him for the sake of argument and suggested that he should talk to some people in the industry and try and be the first to run tests with commercial drones, it would be fun and hopefully drum up some extra buisness for him…

The following year , he said to me that he had been commissioned by the government to do some tests with commercial drones and how much fun it was going to be, we argued again over the expected results, and again he was really dismissive over what damage a bit of plastic, and a couple of batteries could do etc.

When I saw him again after another year, I asked him how the tests had gone.

His whole demeanour changed, and he said that he couldn't talk about it. I kinda laughed and pressed him again, and said "oh so I assume the results weren't that great then?"

He got really serious and said. No, he really couldn't talk about it at all! All of the test data and footage had been taken by the government, and He wasn't allowed to release, reveal, or discuss the tests or the results in any way, shape, or form, ever!

So, I'm assuming that the test results weren't great news for airline safety then…😮

  4. Another FAKE DRONE STORY! It is not possible for the plastic propellers on a DJI mini. The plane is made with 1/8 inch sheet metal. These drones cant cut their way thrua 1/16 inch twig. These drones dont cut their way out of being stuck in a tree and they are designed to not be able to fight its way out of a paper bag. The motors shut off at contact with anything, even paper, to save its motors. How is it now a diamond bladed cutting machine. THIS IS FAKE!!!!
