  1. My sister has a Pyr mix and he's never made it to the weight we expected. He's not food motivated and we tried lots of different treats and food, didn't change. He eats when he's hungry or thinks someone will eat his food. Some dogs are just like that.

  2. Vanessa you are great and so caring but I cant say I'm impressed with the owners. Those Matts took a while to get that big so he's clearly not being brushed regularly or having his claws clipped. His weight issue should have been addressed before getting this bad and his food monitored. Have to say it as see it this dog is not being properly cared for.

  3. Gotta say, nobody wants a duck spitting soap on them!!! 😂 He seems nervous but he's trusting you so far…What I love about you is that you assess them and figure out why they get upset and you work with that info. You take their needs before your own, show a lot about you as a person. Bravo Vanessa!!

  4. He cleans up quite nicely. Unbelievable the amount of heavy matting you removed. He's got to feel much better having that stuff removed. I'm totally really impressed how you work with him to keep him as calm as possible.

  5. We currently have a GP Mix and he’s not a big eater either. Had a Basset Hound that was also not a big eater. Vet told us to put their food down for 20 minutes & then pick up until next feeding time. He said they didn’t have a pack mentality for food, so we had to train them to eat when food was available. Both ‘thinish’ , but very healthy

  6. Watching his nervousness and his progress as you worked with him, makes me feel like maybe last time wasn't the only grooming session that had upset him, and maybe it was just the camel's straw. Your calm, unhurried skill helped him to cope and he could feel the comfort even through his anxiety.

As you've often told us the mats could have been creating or worsening pain in his right rear leg. To my eyes he pretty much trusted you with that limb by the end of the groom. You were helping it feel better and he knew that.

Overall he had such a handsome friendly face. Even when he got a little reactive he was more telling you off, than going into aggression. Congratulations again in bringing the best out of him.

Fellow viewers: I think Dawn reminds us that even if you cannot manage a deep groom yourself it is important to get your pets familiar with being handled all over, and with brushes, clippers, etc. Even if you can only pretend to use them it will help your furry friend cope with a pro groom. ❤ PS: Don't do anything painful as that will condition them to hate grooming.
