Finally, the UK, Italy and Japan Build a Light Speed Sixth Generation Fighter Jet

The Global Combat Air Program (GCAP) is a new partnership and ambitious effort between the UK, Japan and Italy to deliver the next generation of combat airborne fighter jets.

The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, visited the UK’s RAF base today to launch the first major phase of the program, which aims to leverage the combined expertise and strengths of the country’s defense technology industry to push the boundaries of what has been achieved in the aerospace field. engineering to date.

Due to be in service in 2035, the ambition is to become a next-generation jet enhanced with a network of capabilities such as unmanned aircraft, advanced sensors, advanced weapons and innovative data systems.

This project is expected to create high-skilled jobs in all three countries, strengthen our industrial base and foster innovation with benefits beyond purely military use.

It is envisaged that more like-minded countries could purchase GCAP in time or collaborate on a broader capability – boosting UK exports. The fighter aircraft developed through GCAP is also expected to be compatible with fighter jets of other NATO partners.
