  1. “It just becomes the most linear, restrictive game for some reason. And I’m baffled by it.” For some reason that line has me really excited for his 13 play through haha!

  2. Damn, I hadn't played it before and was just experiencing it through Preach, so I had been wondering why the game had the bad rep that it did. Makes sense now.

  3. At launch, I found myself having fun with the open world but I was overall pretty disappointed with the story and had zero connection with any of the big story points and then the game just fucking ends out of nowhere. A bizarre experience.

  4. Yeah, one of the biggest faults of FF15 is that half of its story is presented in supplementary materials. And there's not just a movie – there's over 10 hours worth of content, manga, etc.
I guess it was a greedy attempt to sell you a bundle of stuff.
I never read it. But from people who did, I heard that FF15 story is a masterpiece, but if you take the game alone – it falls completely on its face. 😮

  5. I really do hope you take a deep dive in the whole development of versus 13 and 15. If it feel short, it's because it is. There is (allegedly) almost finished version of the [final zones], we only got a small part of it. I don't know if the full [final zones], would have been the other half for the game, but it does make sense. Season 2 was also cut. That would have included episode Noctis and that would have apparently bridged a lot of the versus 13 story to 15. I keep dreaming about 15-2, maybe one day, probably not thou.

  6. They want us to hate Ardyn, but he’s unironically the only character I enjoyed. The boys have a good relationship but none of them are real people, they’re just stereotypes. Glasses Smartman, Muscles Brashman, Emo Protagman, and Peppy Twinkman

  7. Btw, i love seeing you journey through the saddest, most heartbreaking final fantasy ever. Its heartbreaking not because of the game, but because of all the wasted potential.
And i like hearing your honest thoughts

  8. once you leave fantasy Venice the pacing and charm of the game gets thrown out the window. It reaks of exec saying "we need to launch on this day, not delaying. Cut things to make it happen"

  9. You /did/ get that warning, when you're at the lighthouse. You're told, several times, 'from this point on you won't get to come back for a while', you just ignored it lol.

  10. Lunafreya: 100% agree on, ruined the story for me.
Leviathan fight: I liked it, the change in fight didn't bug me, that's a preference issue.
The budget/development issues others have talked about: Yeah, those sucked,

The game changing: I played this on launch. I thought it was a stupid criticism then, and I think so now, and I think Mike is missing the forest for the trees.

From an entire narrative perspective, the game pits the best time of your lives as the road trip with the guys. It's the bonding, it's seeing the world, the hunts, the people. This is all designed to make you attached to it. And then it is all ripped away from you, intentionally, to make you as the player feel what the rest of the world is feeling.

Ignis not being able to cook food, this is one of my top moments in the game. The entire campfire scene, everyone upset with each other, Ignis doubting himself, this is all done to sell the emotional weight of what happened, and I thought was one of the best scenes, implementing story elements into gameplay elements. The point is you're supposed to be worse off because everyone is upset. Mike seems upset like cooking is gone forever, when its blatantly clear that it will come back at some point.

Chapter 13, I played the "bad" mode on launch, and again, people just can not comprehend a game implementing story adaptions into gameplay, and having your character be weak and take a shift in genre to sell just how horrible the Imperial capital is. People get lost because the gameplay wasn't cool enough for them to get that you were supposed to feel something here, as the player. Like, it wasn't the greatest gameplay, but there was clearly an intended effect they were going for.

The story: Yes, you were literally railroaded into advancing the story, it's clear from the story they are telling that it would not function anymore. Taking the Regalia out in the Imperial Capital wouldn't work because its not where you grew up and its a daemonic apocalypse, it's not longer that road trip with your best friends that you look back on when you're old as the best days of your life. They could not tell the story they wanted without doing this. Not liking the story, sure. But there are thematic story reasons for doing this. Plus, you are given options at multiple points to go back to the more open-world stuff to explore and find things, so this isn't a permanent thing to experience, but more just a couple hours of advancements.

  11. Sadly this game was not complete. It was conceived as a 3 part series (clear 3 part story) that was forced to be made as 1 part because of fan crybabies online saying the reveal of "The World of the Versus Epic" should not be more than one game "DO NOT DARE MAKE A TRILOGY AGAIN LIKE WITH XIII", and they caved.

Meanwhile, XIV and VII REMAKE proved that for these big Epics, you NEED to develop them and give them space to breathe, or you condense them to something like FFXV.

And it is SO sad because XV World, Scenario, Concept, Characters, Atmospher,e, is 10/10 and probably the best in all FINAL FANTASY history outside FFI.

Sadly, we have to wait for the 3 part Remake in 2035-2045, and hopefully they do it justice.

    DAMN wannabee fans….

  12. I haven't played FFXV but watching this video really gives me Vampire: the Masquerade Bloodlines vibes. In that game you can really tell they were running out of time because the game changes so drastically towards the end from what it was in the beginning.
