Final Fantasy XVI is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix for PlayStation 5 as an exclusive. Players take control of protagonist Clive Rosfield and a rotating party of AI-controlled companions through segmented open areas across the continents of Valisthea.

At the start of the story, during a time of growing unrest in Valisthea, Clive serves as Joshua’s bodyguard, known as the First Shield of Rosaria, and is tasked with his protection and is subsequently blessed with some power from Phoenix, the Eikon of fire. As Clive tries to prove himself, and Joshua prepares for his role as a Dominant and future role as the Archduke of Rosaria, the Duchy is attacked; in the ensuing battle, a second Eikon of fire, Ifrit, manifests, causing widespread devastation. The tragedies that follow lead Clive to embark upon a quest of revenge, seeking out Ifrit and their Dominant.

Final Fantasy 16 characters include: Clive Rosfield, Joshua Rosfield, Jill Warrick, Cidolfus Telamon (aka Cid), Torgal, Hugo Kupka, Benedikta Harman, Dion Lesage and Barnabas Tharmr.

  3. A while back I said in a commment that it seemed like this game doesn't have much room for personal style. As you gain Eikons, I start to feel differently, but I still feel like the "macro game" seems very linear/on rails so far. There's only the one character to customize and it doesn't really feel like it matters all that much what you upgrade…fights and spoils seem tuned so that you have to try but ultimately you win the first or sometimes second attempt.

Maybe it would feel more organic if you do more of the side content before it vanishes, but basically all the side content you did so far was neither engaging nor rewarding (you get some gil but you have plenty of gil, and you don't really get anything else). And honestly it feels a bit like a Ubisoft game when you looked at the world map right before going to the capital and it was just covered in exclamation points.

I am glad you decided to just push through, it is making the "longer than the LOTR trilogy" movie that is the MSQ feel much better to watch.

Unrelated: one thing I'd criticize about this story is the same thing everybody criticizes Trails of Cold Steel 2 for, and that's this massive scale thing going on with the Blight and the Empire's war of aggression…which has mostly not been reflected in your party's actual experience living in the world. It's not nearly as bad as CS2, but it is definitely there. It has dropped off a lot after the timeskip though.

  4. 8:30 . Could someone please tell me if this panther is called a Republican war panther in the original Japanese version? If not, then Why The Heck is it a Republican panther??! I strongly hope there is some justifiable reason than the translation team calling the slavers Republicans.
