Suikoden is a game many had told me I had to play. I missed a ton of RPGs and games from the late 90s all through to 2010, so this was high on the list. I didn’t know what to expect other than great character sprites, but I had no idea how fun and dynamic the combat system would be either! Many combined attacks from characters were reminiscent of Double and Triple Techs from Chrono Trigger, and the music was full of memorable earworms.
Being able to play this as intended on the original PS1 hardware was a big boon as well. Using my OSSC and sometimes the Retrotink5x has been a blast to get such high quality capture to all of you.
The characters ranged from silly, serious, zany, intense, and just plain annoying (GREMIO). In spite of this, the game seems to drag on sometimes, and much of the character development is missing with such a large cast. But I did enjoy most of my time with this, and hope I can dive into Suikoden 2 someday! Maybe with the Suikoden Remasters coming out?
