The first damage upgrade doubles your damage from 5 to 10. Getting it up to 20 or 25 is really good for the first guys. Even before the speed. Knockback is pretty much useless.

I think this is an interesting concept, but it's also missing something. In the run that Z won, he basically ran out of decisions to make at the 30% mark and just had to keep going forward until he hit the finish line. Some sort of relic system and/or track switching system, where you can take on extra challenges for extra rewards or quicker runs, might help.
