Fighting Back the Winter Blues at the Sawmill

Ok ok, it happened. I bumped the sawmill shed with the log loader trailer. I can tell ya one thing though, these earmuffs on my hard hat sure work good as I could barely tell what was happening until I looked up and found a nice treat. I’m back at the sawmill today taking some nice 9 foot red pine logs and turning them into the next pieces of building material for a project I”ll be introducing to everyone before long. Sometimes half the battle is getting the logs loaded up onto my Woodland Mills HM130max and off again. Not so anymore with my Wallenstein LXT95 Log Loader Trailer here to lend a helping hand. I’m loading and unloading logs today (sometimes two at a time) with this log loader trailer directly onto my sawmill. This take some steady hands in order to ensure nothing get’s broken (I may have spoken too soon). Tune in today to see what this sawing process is all about and check out my sawmill setup with everything from a power up/down sawhead to two green lasers to help guide my cuts. No matter what happens, it’s always a good day in the woods. Here we go!

  1. Hi Sandy thanks to you I've had an HM126 on the extended trailer for about 8 months now and it is a fab bit of kit
Spent last week milling 6×1 floorboards out of a 70ft 28" spruce and banging my leg on the jack handle 🀣 so at least your not alone in that pain
Here in Wales uk we don't get the snow you get but the rain we get makes up for it🀣luckily I have an enclosed barn big enough to mill in during the winter
Thanks for sending me down the woodland mills lane its so much fun πŸ‘

  2. You need a little more D3 in your diet, it will not make everything better, but may help with the winter blues.
Our winters are not anything like the kind of winter you guys have, but I always feel better after I get outside and work a little, Glad it worked for you too.

  3. Your comments on the weather hit home! I'm from Minnesota, and today is the first day that hit 40 degrees in a long time! The snow is still too deep to get out into the woods, and my sawmill is still buried, so I try to keep busy doing little jobs around the place. Things should start looking up come mid-April.

  4. Howdy Sandy- if it gets too bad up there just come on down and we’ll feed you some fried catfish, cornbread and sweet tea. That one camera angle was just a little close to my nose lol. Take care and have a great weekend. God bless

  6. Sandy, thank you for the info on the updated measure indicator- the wide pointer was source of frustration lining up "accurate" measurements especially with different sawyers- my wife is shorter than I

  7. I am so done with winter and keep saying I’m not gonna plow our road one more time. Guess what? We got another 8 inches. Guess what I was doing? Yep plowing the road again so we can sympathize with you, us folks here in North Idaho.

  8. I was born and raised in Michigan and lived there and in Wisconsin through more than 33 of these types of winters. One February morning, the wind chill off Lake Michigan was 65-70 degrees below Fahrenheit.
I look at people like him and think that it would be easy enough to pack up and head about 1000 miles to the south and discover a "whole new world", as it were.
Crazy how some people will complain as opposed to actually doing something to alleviate the discomfort. Crazier yet how I used to be that type of person but no longer.
As Dad always said "lets not talk about it, lets do it".

  9. I guess winter is not my favorite also but I do like the changing seasons there's something good and bad in them all and I'm glad no one can change it because we would really be in trouble then haha nice video Sandy

  10. Hi Sandy. I noticed that you cut two sides on at least one log. Is that a corner log? I may have the same blower as you. I bought a Huskvarna 150 BT a few weeks ago along with their 25-db. ear protection. Have good days!

  11. I hear ya. This winter has been especially long. Seems like I was plowing every other day and gladly welcome spring! Like your videos so much I've watched every one. I'd say I'm your biggest fan but that's creepy and sounds like Misery. 😳 Take care Sandy! πŸ˜πŸ‘

  12. I could brag about my current weather but come summer time I will be looking to the north. Phoenix GETS HOT. Not really cold, but the heat is brutal, some times exceeding 46 C !!!!

  13. Great tips, I always pick up some valuable information from my journey. Some simple tips can save time and needles repairs and expense.
I watched a lot of your tooth settings videos but it never clearly shows where the pressure specifically interacts with the tooth. Main question is the set screw/plunger does it contact the middle of the tooth near the top harden portion or pressure applied at the gullet against the anvil?
Researched this along with the manual from woodland mills but I am still a bit confused.
I did my first setting and sharpening and the blade performed great but I don’t want to sharpen more of my blades until I know for sure.
    Really enjoy your channel.
