Toronto police say an investigation is underway after four people were killed and a fifth was seriously injured in a fiery Tesla crash. The suspected high-speed electric vehicle collided with a concrete pillar downtown just after midnight on Thursday, erupting in flames.
“The standards aren’t there to match these vehicles being made, it is the wild west out there,” said Randy Narine, a firefighter and lithium-ion researcher with the Clean Energy Safety and Training Council of Canada.
According to Duty Insp. Phillip Sinclair, there were five people inside the car — three men and two women in their 20s and 30s. Sinclair said four of them died at the scene while the fifth was pulled out and expected to survive.

Yes, there is a random chance your tesla could get pancaked so bad and you are too injured to get out, and then the battery burns like thermite underneath you. That is a major design flaw in EV's. All you can do is accept that risk when you're driving in one or not drive one.

When Global News first reported on this incident, it left out the material fact that it was a Battery Powered Tesla.
I agree that firefighters and owners of electric vehicles need to be aware of this issue. What I don’t agree with is this news story? It sounds like it’s an attack on TESLA with scenes of burning and exploding battery-powered scooters of unknown sources. Electric vehicle fires are far less common than gasoline powered vehicles. This information is now readily available. I’m terribly saddened by the deaths and injuries. Tesla should have the data to show what happened in the crash. Tesla vehicles are ranked overall as nearly or the safest, again with the statistics and international crash tests as well. Why don’t you report on that Global?

Just think, governments in Canada are massively subsidizing car battery factories to the tune of tens of billions of dollars. Just another Liberal / NDP dumpster fire! LOL! Oh, and throw in fat boy's Ontario government too.
Blaming Tesla for an accident is like saying, “If only the knife hadn't been so sharp, no one would have gotten hurt when it pierced their skin.” Right, because it’s definitely the knife’s fault. Let's be real—if someone can't drive, they probably shouldn’t own any car, Tesla or otherwise. You don’t see Apple pulling iPhones off the shelves because someone ignored the instructions and ruined their battery with a sketchy charger.
But sure, let’s blame the road, the guard rail, maybe even the streetlight for not being bright enough. While we’re at it, how about swapping guardrails for giant pillows? Or hey, water drums! There are a thousand things you could point fingers at, but Tesla gets the blame. It’s almost like we forget that Toyotas, Hondas, and just about every other car also meet unfortunate ends when speed comes into play.
Maybe, instead of pinning it on car manufacturers, we could shift our perspective a bit. Maybe tackle the real issues, like the rampant, dangerous drugs that actually are wrecking lives. It’s time to get out of that bubble and take a hard look at what really needs fixing.
