Parsing in FF is not the same as other MMO's. People who parse form groups specifically for that purpose. Actual parsers DONT parse outside of those groups of people in FF because ACTUALLY parsing in FF is grounds for a ban. Some damage checks in FF are extremely tight in some cases, and uptime does matter for people who have lower level gear. That being said, death is also unacceptable because that is an extreme loss of DPS. The people he talks about in this video that do dumb things 'for the parse' are not parsers. In a parse prog group, you try different things to get better numbers. Like adds phase in P3s. Standard procedure is to leave all 4 adds alive but do as much damage before the tether dashes resolve, and then pulling the birds around so they die. The current parsing strat is to down two birds before tethers, so you have half the out going damage, and then you can take your sweet time downing the other two to build gauge. Most people dont know about this, but it makes this part much easier. A little tight for the tethers mech, but overall much easier. The people crying about grey parses in anything are super casuals and probably never stepped foot in the actual fights. I dont agree with most of this video. I am not a parser myself, but I have joined a few parsing parties just to see what it was like, and I did have a lot of fun. Its a completely different perspective on raiding, which I love.
I left a comment about how I feel about parsing, like I will dps (healer main) but, I prioritize the safety of the party over my damage. I know I'm reaching what is considered maximized damage on my role I don't try to push it, in case of causing wipe.
But I'm also the same towards melee dps, one thing I can't stand is the greed, even if they don't die they take damage (that has no debuff) but still considerate amount of damage that could be avoided, just for uptime and expect to be healed. Of course being a healer, I do like to ensure the safety of party members, even if they intentionally take damage… It's quite depressing really.
As a 95+ parser in ff14 when you parse p3s, many groups slow dps on the ad phase until the last second so your pot comes off cooldown for phoinix during 2 minute window
I did Bahamut's Coil when RR came out. Some of my static used parsers and told me my dps was low. However I was the smn. In T7 I was the kiter so it was perfectly reasonable for my dps to be lower because I had so many other things to look out for. Also whenever someone died, it was my job to swift cast+rez them so the healers didn't have too.
When HW came out I had a different job in real life and couldn't raid with my static anymore. I briefly tried joining others but nothing stuck. One thing I told people and it's true to this day. When first going into a raid/extreme trial or whatever, turn OFF your damn parser. Your still learning the mechanics. Your DPS is not a concern. If you make it to the end of the fight without dying and wipe to the enrage, you essentially won. Now you just need to perfect when to pop you cd's, your not geared enough yet or your team sucks 😛
I will never understand the mentality with parsing. In my head it would stress me the fuck out to see nothing but numbers when im in an instance. But thats just me
I would love an option in the Duty Finder which disables the Combat log for everyone in that run.
That seems to me like a good compromise. Where loggers and parsers can get their run, while people who just want a clear without having to put up with the bullcrap can also get theirs.
I don't know what a parse is. I just fuck shit up. More blood. More death. MORE AXE!
If you have some friend or look newbie player don't be recommend about savage content with them . . . . you should be release them play all content first. they should be enjoy with another content becasue FFXIV have many content for enjoy with this game.
Another disease in FFXIV is "Openers". Countdown reaches 0 to start a fight, suicide. Why ? I fucked my opener. WHO THE FUCK CARES ? WHAT IS YOUR OPENER GONNA DO ? 0.1 / 0.2% dmg ?? OMG .. STOP DYING !
Meta gaming sucks because I personally feel it restricts a players ability. Why r u not playing Bard ? Out of meta ……. BUT YOU"RE A GOOD BARD ! We need bard ! nope. meta !
The whole rich thing, is that really why they said he got carried? Because of his parse? … people are dumb… he literally busted his ass and tried as hard as he could, But most importantly he had fun doing it. It was such great content to watch as well.
23:10 ish, "this is why we dont have support classes," god fucking yes something I finally agree with you on. I know you didnt play FF11, but I played a redmage in that game when chains of prom was the current expansion. I had almost every other job at 37 so I could sub ANYTHING and do anything I wanted, but naturally most of the time you subbed whm or blm and sat in the back just keeping buffs up, debuffing and dispelling the targets, and doing barely any damage expect for a dot or two and occasionally tossing a lower level nuke spell (since you didnt get the giant nukes blm got) during a skill chain to add just a bit of damage, but even that wasnt an all the time thing. Your primary job was support, support the mana users, support the dps, dps the tank, help the whm out once in awhile if they got behind, etc.
And ya know what? It was fun. I didnt need to be dealing the same damage as anyone else, I didnt need to really be dealing any damage, nor tanking, nor main healing. the overall idea of making EVERYONE ELSE more effective at their roles, that WAS my role, and it was fun because none of them would have been as strong or useful without the humble rdm there doing their part.
But… we cant have roles like that anymore. We couldnt have a dancer or bard being a pure support class, we couldnt have redmage being purely an enfebeling class making bosses/mobs weaker… nope, gotta be like wow, a game where everyone has to be as selfish as fuck at all times and only considers themselves worthwhile if they get to do high dps, and thats an enforced belief system by every other player attacking anyone who ISNT doing high dps.
I miss the days when MMOs were experimental. We had some pretty wild and fun shit mixed in everywhere, none of it was balanced worth a damn, but it was FUN, and that was the entire point of playing a game, having fucking fun.
Nooo Asmon don't be silly… certain classes should always be top dps for average play because of "reasons." /s
The forum is constantly filled with incessant whining the moment the meta changes even slightly.
Metagaming has ruined MMORPG's. It has negatively influenced class design (support classes don't exist anymore for example). Related to that, optimizing your own personal DPS is fine and all that, but doing that at the expense of group synergy (or your own personal enjoyment) is not.
Parsing is what enables this, but I view it as more like a symptom rather than the disease.
Case in point, in WoW you might enjoy playing one particular spec for your main class very much, however it could be considered "underperforming" or "inefficient" for current raid content. Therefore you are pressured into playing the "meta" spec, which might be one you particularly don't care for, in order to chase the meta and "perform well" in the raid. Which is ironic since you have had to learn the new spec (therefore not being experienced at it), you might not even perform much better than your main spec, which makes that meta basically irrelevant.
This is why I’ve retired from raiding. I was pushed out of it by parsers and it made the environment absolutely toxic. It’s a shame too because I enjoyed the content
I dislike the obsession with parses but ultimately its up to every player to use them properly and personally I prefer to enjoy the benefits of logging even with parses rotting most peoples brain.
I agree with most things you said EXCEPT: "you pull, you tank" as if that's a toxic way of thinking. Bit of context though, because as a tank I won't punish dps or healers who accidentally pull or w/e. I'm talking about the impatient dps that needs to do 9 mob pulls instead of letting the tank do what he's comfortable with pulls wise. If I get people like that that constantly keep pulling then they should 110% TANK what they pull -.- It's just infuriating to play with people like that. Play a tank then if you want to be a mad pulls Andy, but don't do that pussy "I'm helping speed things up"-bs!
If you cant parse red with only autoattacks dont even bother
This is like that in ESO. They want to see you parse before raiding
parsing ruined shadowbringers for me. raid never got to see enrage yet, i always stood last besides the times i sacrificed myself for the raid by rezzing, however my dps apparently always was the problem :^)
I do like to look at my parses if they are good, but i dont really care if they are bad. In the end a clear is a clear and someone damage woud have to be REALLY low so that i would start to care. Funny enough we lately had such a moment in our static when we recruited a new healer who had little to no knowledge of his job and his damage was below half of what his class averagly does. He was dead half the time, "forgot" to press his damage spells, healed overexcesivly and all that really made me consider if i dont want to start seeing logs before i recruit people. I never really got before why people want to see logs or why people are willing to show logs if they apply for a static but since that incedent …… yeah i kinda see where they are coming from.
Its the people that kick people out of parties because of parsing that are toxic.
fact: a full party of grey will not clear the fight, if you are proud of a grey parse for playing it safe and doing way less damage, someone or multiple people in your team had to be a greedy parse pusher to make up for your lazy playstyle to make the dps check. FFLogs should be used to become better but if you are sitting on grey and never improving you are the cancer not the guy who is 75 and bust his balls to become a 100 to make up for your shitty dps and lack of team contribution.
So no a grey is not always 'a clear is a clear im better than people who didnt clear'
The biggest disease to FFXIV are the people that give a flying f about how other people want to record their progress and growth
The thing is, Yoshida took the idea of boss enrages from WoW and put it in his game without totally understanding the consequences of that. Enrages were introduced by the devs in WoW because they wanted a DPS race to occur in their fights and fully embraced the addon community that supported it. However, Yoshi doesn't support addons and outright bans overt parsing. If the enrage is to be meaningful, it would have to make it impossible for people to win with a certain amount of deaths in the party and that means people need to know what the numbers are. An effective enrage = mathematical measurement of damage required no matter what.
What's the color of your parse?
I only parse for PERSONAL IMPROVEMENT and worry about only MY number and if I did better than my last run. Being able to play a class and maximize my damage is fun for me. But I will atleast do the mechanics correctly and focus on the clear first. If I don't need the gear, sure I'll join a color party to see where I stand and continue improving from there. I'm just not going to force my more serious attitude towards the game and my class on someone who just got home from a 12 hour shift and probably have kids running around screaming for no reason. That's just not fun. However, I do not enjoy the extreme casuals where they are turbo memeing and dying to the same mechanic 7 #$%&ing times.
I play the game and if I’m gonna make fun of Rich, it’s gonna be for him being a Lalafell. Mocking another man’s skills is just too far, but the height of his character is fair game.
If you can clear the savage striking dummy and the actual fight without being carried… Fflogs is just pretty graphs.
Top 1 parses can be manipulated, but for the majority of the community is a excelent tool to improve your game and facilitate your progress in a fight. Those that hate parse just for the sake of it are usually bad and lazy players.
HEALER PLEASE AHHHH I'M ONLY AT 60% HEALTH AHHHH I CAN'T HANDLE THIS HEAL ME NOW NOW NOW NOW REEEEEE
I hate wowrats line you wouldn't believe
Parsing Healers…I've got stories about this
The moment he said you aren't dying due to lack of DPS took me right back to mythic ursoc. The one and only time I have ever put my foot down and said flat out I'm not doing another pull as tank until one more lockout of farming. So many ursoc wipes.
I remember fondly that back when EW released i told my static i wanted to change classes, since i disliked the DRK changes. All they said in response was "But it does the most damage". And they couldn't understand that i made the decision based on personal preference on changes to a class i mained.
Not gonna lie this aged fkn terribly considering what is happening right now with class balance in ffxiv
Does Asmongold even play FFXIV anymore?
Worse than furries? X to doubt.
Never heard about parsing before watching chair's video and I think it's just because I only care about my role in a party, when I played paladins I never cared about the number of my damage, or about my kill count, I only cared about the results, and about my contribution to the group, if my group isn't dying because I'm healing, awesome, if my group wins because I'm tanking the enemies, awesome, and if my tank doesn't die because I'm killing or just dealing damage to every bastard that appears, awesome, what's the point of looking to a number going up? Stop looking at the number and look at the Damn AOE you stupid moron
I jumped into savage in EW and found a group that wanted on content clears and I main a tank, great so I OT as gnb as its the class im most familiar with and enjoy the most. after getting BiS we would do reclears where everyone swapped roles just to get those classes geared. on reclear we had pld/war, sge/whm, dancer, drg, mch, rdm. the only thing I noticed that instead of easily beating enrage we would often see the very beginning of the enrage cast when we cleared. We went in day 1 with a stacked group as we could get, war/gnb, ast/sch, rpr, mnk, smn, brd and got absolutely smacked till we figured out mechanics then it was prog as normal. lesson i learned it isnt the class that matters but the person playing the class.
Its like PLD. I didnt mind it was low damage. It was fun. 6.3 PLD iz bad
I'm kind of on the fence on the ninja rework… I haven't raided in a long time so I didn't even know that happened, but back when I did play, every raid needed a ninja because your DPS without one was just garbage. Makes me sad that people can't recognize that, but at the same time needing a ninja in order to optimally clear savage was probably a bad thing.
The problem seems to be that people are terrible at statistics and like to make inaccurate conclusions about random numbers to pretend they are better than someone else in the game. You should always try and improve, not try and pass someone else. That's just basic logic. If you can fool yourself into bad statistics to try and inflate your fragile ego, then you (1) were foolish enough to fall for your own fraudulent analysis and (2) still think that comparing yourself to others if a good metric rather than comparing yourself to what is optimal
Parsing and meta culture is why no one knows how good many off meta things are. Hell, we've had a rerelease of classic content in WoW and no one can tell you what the potential of a smite priest is. There isn't a single one that was ever given the gear and group to parse. Let alone pad the parse.
i used a parser in ff14 many many years ago in heavensward when it was new released and i found out that you can manipulate the parser that it will show higher damage but i fixed it and i found out that a parser was very good to tell me that i did very good dps.
By boosting my ego my dick grow rapidely fast.
A parser was really helpfull to do a perfect run and why ? because without a parser i will never know when my peak damage was and when i had to hold cd's off because of boss mechanics to boost it after the mechanics and so on but by doing the mechanics and still never let the enemy run out of dots so refreshing dots was somethign that have be done not when it was close to run out, i had to know when the enemy did what and for how long.
I out damaged everyone with my dragoon and with my Bard and then i found out i am a very shit Black mage even when i was thinking i was a good one because as a black mage my dps was the lowest.
So my dick grow inside and i have a trauma now.
This is why parser are good and bad a short story
parsing creates big egos
I have multiple 99%+ and I had to play like an absolute piece of crap thats actively detrimental to the party to get those.
Thankfully i changed my ways
I only ever use it for healing (also tank before the aggro changes) mostly because that's the only time they data is actually useful for improving yourself.
