welcome to the nuclear apocalypse, the most popular german shepherd name by a whopping 101.1%; Dogmeat.
I'm on zachs side of this in most regards one thing I noticed was why is it in the spand of like 4 episodes did the have to very weird pregnancy birth scenes both seemed very not needed at all to the story
could be wrong but i think the dog's name is something like CX-404, i watched the show with subtitles on and when the dog barked it always said either [dog barks] or [CX-404 barks]. i do remember the ghoul calling him dogmeat so that could just be a "oh shit he said the thing" moment though
Mike and Zack, not to rush or urge you guys. But we’re itching for you guys for your “Next Fallout 4 videos” if you know our gist. Clocks ticking on the next gen update, but you won’t let us down won’t you.🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
Comparing this to Cyberpunk 2077 is NOT necessary, CDPR fixed the damn game and it's fantastic now, keep the discussion about Fallout. On that note, stop being so goddamn negative about it.
To propose a different theory to Zach's take that the show was made with "malicious intent", consider this; The show was not made with malicious intent but rather feels malicious because of the studio's lack of understanding for the franchise or, simply lack of resources/money. While I enjoyed the show, I did notice a fair few points of lazy writing, direction issues, and production shortcuts.
The best example that jumped out at me was the whole water chip scene in Vault 33. Besides the obvious reference to Fallout 1, the whole scene makes no sense within the show as it is NEVER brought up again. I mean, they made an entire game (or at least half a game) based on the entire idea of the water chip being broken and needing to be replaced within X days. So why is there no urgency over it? Why is this not a larger issue? Why is it never brought up? Seems like a pretty big issue that doesn't warrant being push to season 2.
As for something like Prydwen, I bet that the studio just took the entire model from it from Fallout 4, ported it to blender, made a few tweaks, cleaned it up a bit in post and just sent it. I bet the CG artists didn't even know that "Prydwen" was the name of the airship and figured it was something like "Vault-Tec" or "Stimpak" (a generic, in universe name).
So with the money going to the best parts of the show (the actors, the costumes, the vault sets) and with the 'memberBerry moments being shoved into the narrative like a Marvel Quip line, I can see things like the story and lore elements being pushed to the back in favor of the flashy. This is also a TV show, so it's not going to have a massive budget to cover EVERYTHING (it doesn't excuse it necessarily, but it gives something of an explanation).
TL;DR Show wasn't made out of malice, but was lazily written which feels like malice.
Side note (not a knock against the show but kinda funny), I actually burst out laughing when I saw the "Cold Fusion Reactor" as that shit is just a bunch of vacuum parts (which I work with daily). My friend watching it with me said "so it's like if they built a nuke out of a bunch of pinball machine parts" and I just lost it.
The dog isn't called Dogmeat though. Ghoul specifically says "You're not Dogmeat"
Thx for the spoiler warning I'll be back I'm only on episode 3😅😅😅
My problem with the "Vault tec caused the great war thing" Isn't so much that it's canon. Because that's been hinted at since like, Fallout 2, there are constant implications that Vault Tec had some kind of hand in launching the nukes, it was a theory i always liked and i do think it still somewhat fits in the overall message of fallout. On top of it I always suspected vault tec was sticking around cause, why perform the experiments if there's nobody around to collect the data? My problem is, they just fucking said it. Like the show cuts to a pre-war board room and the vault tec rep outright says "Hey let's drop the bombs". It's so unsatisfying and kinda lazy tat the show just goes "yeah it was vault tec." when there could've been an actual discovery. An actual instance where the characters uncover a piece of information and go "oh my god… it was them"
Also i talked with a guy about the tweet confirming that Nate is a war criminal. And this motherfucker got mad at me and was like "oh my god you're so stupid and conspiracy brained. He put an emoji in the tweet. Clearly it was a joke. Can't believe you'd take a joke seriously you moron" So I went to check the tweet… and it wasn't a joke. The head writer very much clarified his statement that they specifically designed Nate with that scene in mind. They left any reference to it out of the game because they wanted Nate to be an open ended character to the player, but it's the headcanon of the people who designed his character that he is a war criminal.
The guy who died to the bear in armor didn't die because it was the power armor's fault, it was because he was an inept douchebag that didn't deserve to be a brotherhood knight.
@ around 16:00 when Zach is talking about Fallout being an RPG, how Fallout 3 only has 1 ending, how choice don’t quite make much of a difference in the story, voice protagonist.
How is that any different from like, Final Fantasy or Xenoblade or whatever? Like, does an “RPG” truly exist anymore by this obscure checklist people suddenly only hold Fallout too?
What the fallout franchise needed is a 20mm cannon. The thing you would absolutely need power armour to pick up and use.
So far, I've only watched the first 3 episodes. I am mostly unfamiliar with the world of Fallout. I played maybe an hour of Fallout 4. Just not that into RPG's. Anyways, the ghoul's just a zombie. Interesting but kinda copy/paste type thing at this point. The director should be forced to do season 2 with Alec Baldwin. The repeated ass shots of the dude in a makeshift diaper was enough to outright piss me off. Maximus is a weak pansy. Dude's balls never dropped. Titus, this big bad dude in armor, is a hypocritical b** who took more damage knocking himself out than the monster did. Dude committed suicide by diving into a rock. Dude was tactically retarded in how he approached the situation in the first place. The monster being taken out by a single shot to the head made him look more like an outright wimp than anything else. The shootout with the ghoul in Filly was the most entertaining part but Maximus had to enter the scene and remind us how much we'd prefer him to never show up again. So far, I care about only one character, the ghoul, and I get the distinct impression that he's in the role of an antagonist.
I've heard both sides, it is absolute dog-water and it's really good. Me personally, I think it's got promise, but there's a hell of a lot of garbage strewn about the episodes.
Edit: I have to disagree about the rifle. That thing was ACME comically big. It couldn't even come close to being shouldered and was so damn long that its inherent use is long range. Inside a cave, he should have stowed it and grabbed a handgun or something. The thing was laughable at best.
New Vegas was a fluke
I think the show was quite good. That said, I am not a fan of where they went with it, personally. I think claiming that Bethesda or Todd hating west coast lore is a bit silly, and while certain elements of the show's handling of lore did irk me a bit at times, most of my critiques come down to personal taste. I just would RATHER a different direction have been taken — but it wasn't, so it is what it is.
Just remeber Lucy's has two goals. Find dad and find a man with big nuts.
Acting was good, but the actual writing and storytelling is really cringe or stupid.
the true ramifications of this series is that todd howard will create a skyrim tv show and release a new season every month so that skyrim can live forever
News flash: Zach ain’t happy
I really loved this show personally. I loved everything in they gave us in the show. And vault tech potentially being the masterminds behind the mutually assured destruction is cool. It makes sense since there have been subtle nods to that fact throughout the games as well as an abandoned plot point in the cancelled fallout movie
I think that was always the plan from the start
I really enjoyed this show, Im very much looking forward to season 2.
Zach is more on the side I am on, and I feel like Mike is soft on it, especially considering how easy he is on people in the "creative" fields.
Out on a limb here, but I have played allof theMasEffect games. My take is Liara's smile is a bitter one as her memories are sad but also happy to have loved Shep.
There will be a new protaganist. We willbe able to customise same as before. And our character will be human.
I did enjoy the idea of ghouls taking radaway. Mainly because ghouls have said at least i remember in 3 they talk about how ghoul will go feral no matter what but at different levels and radiation is what causes that.
So i think it makes a bit of sense that ghouls will use radaway or rad-x
Way too many incessant comments about how Vault-tec wasn't confirmed to have dropped the bombs. Mike n Zach are reviewing what the show has currently showed us. Not the story that the show MIGHT be building up to. Btw kudos to them for being able to discuss and disagree on FOTV without making complete asses of themselves, homie goals
For few mentioned:
1 .We can't be sure if it truly was Vault-tech that d the bombs, we need to remember that that in first episode where hear that Cooper have divorce hes wife Bard (one who suggested dropping the bombs in last episode) and cooper was with hes daughter. I don't see that Bard would bomb her own daughter if the vault-tech have decide what day they will drop the bombs.
2. We can't really say vault-tech was a good company either since as mentioned numerous times, vaults that they made, was never meant to save anyone, as suggested for other people during the meeting, conduct experiments on vaults they want to do, and we get to hear some of the suggestions that did happen on fallout 3, 4 and new vegas.
For example, Leon Von Felden suggested to test humans with FEV virus on one of the vaults, this is Vault 87 in fallout 3 and why he suggested is that he was lead creator of that virus back in mariposa base (mentioned in fallout 1)
Between Mike and Zach I have never felt so in the middle. I really enjoyed the visuals, it felt like Fallout but the lore nerd in me was cringing a lot. It was fun in a kinda sad way to be able to pick out all the sounds and shacks ripped from Fallout 4… I wish they hadn't made her dad the one responsible for the end of Shady Sands. They could've made the Lonesome Road DLC in New Vegas fit in some way. Ignoring the Courier's input and have Ulysses resetting the west coast again in nuclear fire.
I feel like this is Bethesda celebrating the success of Fallout, and giving a final conclusion to the overarching lore, because they don't want to make anymore Fallout games. Its possible someone who loves the games and the theme will revive it later (hopefully with great respect to the lore) but its a means to an end, going out with a BANG 💣💥
Not really a spoiler ol mate didn't like it
Damn Zach hating just to try and be different😂
I agree with many of Zach's points, like the vaults locating VERY CLOSE to the Master's territory, but some of them feels like he's just being pissed off over nothingburgers? Like some of the rememberberries that he points out (such as the stimpack sound) just makes sense to be in the show. Don't know why such a thing sets him off.
Is there somewhere I can listen to these outside or YouTube like a podcast app or something?
Based on context clues, interviews and how some Vaults in the games weren't ready when the bombs fell and House was also behind in his estimations it's very likely Vault-Tec wasn't the only ones who planned to start the war and someone else beat them to the punch.
Could be the Enclave, could be the Chinese, could be the fucking Aliens or a complete accident for all we know.
I always thought the power armor guy got killed by radiation poisoning bc I assumed the bear was SO irradiated, until I realize that's like saying "Obiekt 279 didn't survive a nuclear blast"
i liked the show
my grannie loke the fallout show that means its good
There was a vault tec emblem on the nuke in megaton, so perhaps vault tec always were the "big bad"
A post-apocalyptic faction of scavengers is now around 80 years short of lasting more than the United States of America itself did
Has anyone here seen fallout sunburst? It’s such a good fallout animation
Power armour point: it's the arms if we had the tech to do them right it would be good as fo4 lore but we don't so we should have gone for the old style just looks so much better
In regards to shady sands: It’s mentioned a couple times in New Vegas that Brahmin Barons from the Hub are gaining more and more power in and across the NCR compared to the elected government – I believe the “fall” of shady sands is referring moreso to the transfer of political power to the hub, as the actual bomb happened at a later date (since there’s an arrow leading from the known date of the fall to the mushroom cloud, I’d be more inclined to presume they were separate events).
Also vault tec didn’t nuke shady sands because they were competition, Hank nuked them because his wife left him and took the kids there – sure he had Bettys help, but it was a personal bombing, not corporate
If they ever need to write out a character for an episode in Season 2:
The protagonists hang out in some random settlement in Nevada and one needs to get their gun checked up, so they enter that shack with a sign that says "Hazard Weapons". Inside behind the counter is some bearded guy flipping through his holotape collection for what to play next ("Why do I even have a copy of 'Jingle Jangle Jingle'?!"). One he notices the customer he greets matter-of-fact-ly and asks what they require – until he sees the offense to John Moses Browning that they're carrying, which sends him into a rant about it. Hard cut to the rest of the party, who get dragged into some other adventure.
Once the plot of the episode wraps up, the characters return to the shop and find their friend still being lectured by the owner. They then leave with a new "proper" weapon in their hands and parting words of "And take this abomination of a gun with you! I don't want that anywhere near my shop…"
i like the tv show but i have this wierd feeling about how it treats the NCR, honestly i could buy the NCR losing a large chunk of territory to the BOS if the eastern chapter turned to reinforce the west but also the NCR aren't chumps they've got tech and military tactics equal to the BOS and they definitely wouldn't fall apart just because shady sands got nuked
My only super big complaint is the brotherhood is just stupid in this show. I know the Knight was an obvious coward, but someone that says "I'm bored, drop us off, I wanna kill stuff" and is also a KNIGHT IN THE BROTHERHOOD OF STEEL should be able to hold his own against a yao guai. It wasn't even a big one. Would've made more sense if it was a deathclaw and they ended up killing each other, and THAT'S how maximus gets the armor.
Also I get what they're doing with the whole "squire" thing but its also dumb.
I didn’t love all of the plot points, but my goodness did the set designers knock it out of the park
I wholeheartedly agree with Zach on just about everything they talk about. They had the entire US to play with, but chose to go back to an area with more history than anywhere else in the franchise.
These guys are the definition of the Mojave. Mike's our voice of reason while Zach is the mutant in your skull telling you "shoot that annoying bastard". God i love these two men. And thanks for doing time in our services. Combat or not (Zach you're awesome btw) you guys are the best vets i know online.
Everyone complaining about the lore, Zach included, wasn't paying enough attention and is just looking for something to complain about.
In response to your "New Vegas is right there" comment, it strongly depends on how you interpret the credits on Episode 8. If you watch the credits all the way through it pans through a ruined New Vegas with broken buildings (moreso than in the game) and Deathclaw skulls and broken Securitrons all over the ground. I don't think they are going to kill off House because they teased him in S1 so maybe he is still alive, but it does strongly look like New Vegas has been ruined at least on the surface level.
I feel like the drugs the ghoul is taking is something not to prevent a normal ghoul from going feral, but to prevent the him that is going feral from actually going feral. Like if he wasnt already going feral he wouldn't be taking the drug.
Like ghouls do not need the drug if they show no signs of turning feral. It would explain why there were so many ghouls locked away in the drug den too. For drug testing. To see if the drug can reverse the effects of going feral and bring them back to normal
Zach not liking it is very unfortunate to me
