I honestly never thought we’d get anything even remotely close to a faithful live-action video game adaptations out of Modern Hollywood.
But here we are … Its not perfect, but its a bloody good start.
Join me on a relatively spoiler free dive of Amazon’s Fallout.

2:40 Brought a tear to my eye. Even if it's pandering at least she's trying. ♥
The Witcher show was "based" off of the books, not the games. I guess with the end results, that's just semantics tho.
Big MT was also in the show. There's a few ties to NV in there.
I'm 50/50. 50% good for keeping the esthetics, and the feel. 50% bad for destroying ALL the lore, and I mean they destroyed everything. If you did not or just barely played the game you will love the show. If you played all the games, 1+2+Las Vegas ….. you will be angry.
Depends which group you're part off. The esthetics where great, I love the robot trying to kill her, the actors where great, but the writing was 🤢🤢🤮🤮 80% of the decisions where absolutely stupid. Yes movies and shows need some stupid's decisions, but 80% ++ is too much.
Funny, the clips I've tried to watch are packed full of DEI, but YMMV I guess.
The same people who brought us Rings of Power did not suddenly learn their lesson and start respecting IP's that fans love. It's just not possible.
Either the expectations of the fans are in the basement, or their standards are.
I need this after all the drama with some of the other reviews
I havent clicked that fast on a notification for a long time
everything BoS related is garbage, rest is pretty ok compared to most other tv shows from the last few years.
"War. War Never Changes."
Show shaits on anything related to New Vegas, game that moggs anything released by hacks at Bethesda to date. Just don't watch it.
Also, it makes sense that Vault Tec pulled the trigger, all lore points, point to it. It's never said in the games who shot first. Also also, everything is still canon until Todd says otherwise. Keep that in mind.
oh boy, I dunno what is going on online and why people are praising it this much, maybe I played to much fallout 2 and new vegas but the lore is beyond destroyed at this point.
The primary problem here is also how bethesda is not only destroying the old fallout lore, but how they can't even be consistent with the new one: Vaultech was bought half way throughout the building of the vaults by the enclave the actual shadow goverment. robco also bought repcoon but for some reason repcoon has it's own seat at the vaulttech table. the enclave made the vault as social experiments to see how survival in space collonies would effect them, the fact that the vaults actually worked as working nuklear bunker was actually more luck then intention, which is why a ton of vaults killed so many of it's inhabitants because they were suppose to get results for extreme conditions, thus vault tech stating that they wanted to rule over isolated little communities makes no sense. The brotherhood in the series wears east coast armor and waves the east coast flag…on the west coast. The brotherhood knights are compleatly out of character. the NCR was a complete NATION which expanded over all of california, so the fact that they are a raider band now makes 0 sense exept of course if vault tec made a second nuclear holocaust.
I could note more but for now we leave it be, the music choice is terrible and not reminisent of the somber and melancholic music of actual fallout games and most of the asthetic is simply fallout 4 with no respect for the original source material, even and I have to give it that point, they do not look awful.
If you want I can make a second response which is a bit more structured and has more in depth critique, but I am really concerend at this point that people like critical drinker, you and many other don't see the obvious problems in writing, tone """the message""" and respect for the source material that is literally infront of you, even with 0 knowledge of the lore…
Man, not you too. I thought you, of all people, would understand how the classic and NV fans would feel at how much this show ruins the Fallout lore and tone just like Bethesda does.
I have not seen it yet so thank you for flagging spoilers
20:48 Todd Howard literally said in an interview yesterday, that Shady Sands was nuked after the events of New Vegas, and “the fall” is a separate event
The one thing I didn't like was maximus' character. He grew up with the brotherhood of steel, but didn't learn anything. He should be just as knowledgeable as thaddeus. He's just a dummy who gets what he wants by pouting.
I went into this show wanting to hate it because of what was done to Halo and the Witcher but they absolutely nailed Fallout. Some of the lore is a little funky and it looks like they’re suggesting that Vault Tech made ghouls, but I loved it. THIS is what it looks like when everyone involved in the project loves the source material.
I loved the series overall but as a fan gamer, there were alot of little nuisances that bothered me a bit. If the "raiders" at the beginning were supposedly NCR in the finale, why were they murdering vault dwellers?? Aren't they the "good" guys in New Vegas? Where was the follow-up to the water filter crisis? How did the NCR know how to imitate the 32 dwellers in the exchange? What actually happened to vault 32? Was it an experiment that drove them mas or the blight that starved them to madness?
It was mostly inoffensive, but some of the dialogue was a bit shit/cringe.
Probably the highest bar we can clear now.
19:40 Todd has confirmed that Shady Sands was not nuked in 2277, it was nuked after fnv. “The Fall” is referring to maybe an economic decline of sorts and for some reason an actual date isn’t given to the nuke detonation.
I’ve also heard some theorize that the chalk board is propaganda of sorts or is unreliable by intent.
Either way the way that timeline is designed is incredibly misleading and has led to lot of pitchforks. FNV is still canon though.
Is today april fools im too lazy to look it up
If anything, most likely, the success this series is seeing isn't due to it achieving something where others have failed, but rather that it didn't have a high bar to clear.
Fallout has always been a make your own story game, with no main protag to character assassinate, no consistent tone to botch (old world blues and honest hearts exist in the same game… though that doesn't justify this show doing something serious then immediately turning it on it's head and making a awkward joke out of it…) and no limit to the time period a story can take place in.
Almost anything they make up for this series can be acceptable, the only things they need to worry about with this show is their execution of their og story and characters and how close to the game's established lore they stick. Everything else is fair game.
So there was (almost) no way for them to screw this up, outside of turning it into something like the movie versions of resident evil and monster hunter, with a dash of "the
forcefallout is female".This show destroys the lore…. F:NV is completely removed from the canon because of these events
I played OG Fallout releases and loved 3 later, it bugs me how the lore for NV is tarnished by the series because is so freaking good. Talk about adapting greatly a source marterial, it made me think what would it be a Bioshock series or film.
I feel like most people take the wrong conclusions from the "Boards meeting" scene. Yes all those Corpos would have dropped the bomb, but I think it is clear that they simply have not done it. Why would the mother on the board let her daughter be out with dad if she knew the bombs would come. I say the corpos made plans, yes but ultimatly got suprised too. It wasn't something they could control in the end.
To be clear. Shady sands is not destroyed until after New Vegas. The 'fall' starts before New Vegas, but it's been confirmed that the nuke fell AFTER 2277 (and after New Vegas). As implied by the arrow between 2277 and the nuke.
The show has issues, this ain't one.
The FNV fanboys dont realize, 2277 was the year the firsr battle of Hoover Dam happened. Meaning the Legion help kick-start the fall.
Nice editing 👌
17:00 actually in games in positive fault tech starts war too
It's implied in both the game and the show that Vault-Tec was not completely prepared when the bombs went off. I took the scene to mean had China not bombed, they would. Which fits nicely into the lore. VT is notoriously evil.
still dont know who throw the first bomb or who started the war.
I loved the Fallout TV show! It can join the ranks of the Sonic the Hedgehog Movies, The Last of us & Arcane.
dei is the new n word
I don't think the tone was right at all. It felt like a straight comedy all the way through. I respect people liked it but just the driver of the plot, what happened to Shady Sands, was terribly thought out. Neglecting the dates and ages of the characters. The change of location and reason for why it happened are debilitatingly infuriating. When they could have done something much more thematically fulfilling, instead it's just silly, anyway you cut it.
The cast, preformance, costumes were all (for the most part) good and the sets were great. The writing, like most modern fallout content, was lacking. Also, the Oldies were a little over used imo.
And saying it's appealing to a casual/non-gamer audience like it's some badge of honor, so was the Halo show. It's just there isn't this cult of 343 like Bethesda has. But like I said with the Halo show "It looks pretty but it's trash. Though if you like it, good for you."
The Fallout show like the Halo show are for "prime normals" but Fallout doesn't have the excuse of an alternate timeline, if it's canonicity is to believed.
It’s a shame they abandoned the old art style of Adam and Leonard. Also not a fan just writing the NCR off that way
Todd and others has said multiple times that New Vegas is still Canon, and that Shady Sands gets destroyed right after New Vegas.
The fall stands for something else, most people believe it stands for the 1st battle of hooverdam since the battle takes place in the fall year.
They also confirm that we haven't seen nearly at all the end of the NCR, saying that the NCR is huge. Destroying the Shady Sands wouldn't destroy it. People have to remember that the NCR was originally multiple states, so they kinda have experience not having a centralized government for all the states.
Finally we have no idea if Vault Tec started the great war or not. We just know that they were willing to go that far.
Honestly, I haven't heard anyone complain about Lucy or her actress.
She did a great job.
But yeah, I think Maximus’s story was the weakest of the three.
Especially episodes 1 and 2. The scenes with Knight Titus made me wonder if someone stole the armor with how completely out of place he was, having him do both stupid stuff and being totally unlikable to justify him dying and getting a suit of power armor. Once it got past that, his story got better.
I was vary pleased with the show myself. a great breath of fresh air after Halo left me jaded and angry.
when did the bar drop so fucking low that this is whats considered good
Count me as someone who only had a backseat driver's understanding of Fallout but loved the show 🙂
It's nice to see you as a happy jelly for a change! 🌸🤗🙌🏻 I hope it happens more often 🎉
I've not seen the show yet, don't care about spoilers so I watched the whole thing, I'm not worried about having a diverse cast, Fallout has always had a massive variety of characters. What I am worried about is hollywood putting it's agenda into it that was never there, some people like you said call it wokeness, I call it whatever it is, if it's there. Little worried about you mentioning it, but hopefully it's just the diverse cast and not other elements leaking in…
I haven't been a Fallout fan since Fallout 2, but after a rough start, it went swimmingly. We just needed geckos! Yet Westworld's first season was also rather good… so, we should hold our breath regarding the second season. Anyway, I'm just now watching the video, so I hope I don't retread old ground… or water.
It's been a long running theory that vault tec started the war, and it makes sense to me that they would. Vault tec's end goal isn't money it's control
