June 24, 1982 – During a calm flight to Australia, smoke starts filling the cabin of a passenger jet. At the same time, the flight crew witnesses a bizarre shower of brilliant white sparks hitting their windshield. Within moments, the four engines of the 747 shut down. Just seconds before crashing into the Indian Ocean, the engines roar back to life. 2. What a testament to the human spirit, perseverance and the will to live. One setback after another….engines flameout, broken oxygen mask, repeated failures to restart engines, can't see out the windscreen…and yet they kept on. Simply an amazing tale.

  3. I guessed what had happened to the plane just because of the geographic location of the flight but was amazed they got the engines running again. They were all so lucky!
