Fall economic statement: Freeland delivers Canada's fiscal update as recession fears loom | FULL

Canada is ready to weather the harsh winter winds cooling the global economy, despite being set for “significantly weaker growth,” according to the government’s fall economic statement on Thursday.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland delivered the statement in the House of Commons, who said it keeps the government’s fiscal “powder dry,” reserving major spending items for the next federal budget in the spring. But it contains a few targeted measures such as boosts for low-wage workers and student loan interest relief to support Canadians struggling with inflation and interest rates.

It is that very risk of stubborn and prolonged inflation — and the monetary tightening needed to stamp it out — that informs Ottawa’s fiscal path.

The Trudeau government’s fiscal update included a focus on driving investment in Canada’s clean energy industries in response to new American tax incentives signed into law in August in the Inflation Reduction Act. Freeland said this included tax credits for clean technology and clean hydrogen to attract more companies. She also announced a Canada Growth Fund to attract money in private capital to fight climate change and create jobs.

Freeland’s update also included announcing the elimination of the federal portion of interest on student loans, effective April 1, 2023, the day after the current freeze on interest expires.

  1. And here’s another question.
Why do MPs for all parties speak both English and French except for the block Québécois who speak only French.
I thought they demanded that that this country be bilingual? If that is the case it works both ways they should start speaking some English as well!

  2. What a load of bull we are still waiting for the economy to be turned back on. These “Recession fears” are lies, fabricated by the LNDP and their media shills to cover up the gross and criminal mismanagement of this country. Canada can be a global energy leader but we are stuck with an anti-progress anti-work gov’t. Energy demand is high and we have the oil and the gas and the people who have the expertise and willingness to work. We have an obstructionist coalition gov’t hell bent on staying in power by creating welfare dependency to buy votes.

  4. I'm so glad you did an analysis on the situation. Thank you for your valuable perspective! So appreciated. Keeping long term in mind and grateful for any short term that works out! When we had the bullrun people were claiming it would go to at least 100k. Some said 120k, 160k, 180k, and some people even claimed the peak would be at 400k. Did any of those happen? No. Now people are claiming we can go to 17k, 14k, 12k, 9k, and even 5kand they keep speculating. I think the bottom at 17k or 14k is highly probable, but not any lower. It is even possible that the bottom is in. People anticipated an extremely high bullrun, now they anticipate an extremely low bear. It's just emotions running high. I believe that due to the Covid crash the high didn't go as high as it could and should have, now I am expecting the opposite, it isn't going as low as it can because we didn't go as high as we could. In all honesty, I don't care if it goes lower, I will just buy more. If it goes higher I will buy more as well. Next bullrun is where I'm going to sell. Now I just need to buy, buy and buy some more. Selling is not an option at these low prices. I'd invite those people who still in doubt and pain to follow these basic rules you and Kyle Miller’s teachings to acquire trading caution and confident. INVEST HODL and TRADE is the way. We all have to consider day trading in this kind of market situation and make even if it's as little as 10% trading daily and see what that gives in a week.
