Fake Grass is here at Disneyland | There's a lot more than you think too!

With the arrival of fake grass at the Main Entrance and the Haunted Mansion, I thought I’d take a closer look around the park to see where else it might go. Then I found that it’s ALREADY HERE in a bunch of places. Did you notice? Let’s talk about why it’s being done, and what else Disney is going to conserve water (yes, we will be talking about the Nemo lagoon).

  1. So, what are the ducks and geese going to eat? The grass has always been a big part of their diet. I'm NOT happy about this. That real grass is a big part of the ecosystem Walt wanted in his parks. He wanted to attract birds and wanted them to stick around.

  2. I totally get the fake grass from an environmental standpoint. My worry is that Disney is fast becoming the "Amusement Park" that Walt never wanted. The incredible landscaping was another part of Disney that made it more incredible than most theme parks. Sadly fake grass may lead to fake plants and fake topiaries and fake…….. 🙁

  3. "Drought resistant" is the term you're looking for.
    After some thought, I've come to two reasons: #1-Yes, drought…..#2-they only have to divert existing landscaping CMs for a short time to convert areas to artificial turf, as opposed to continuous care of real grass!
    On the other hand….real plants, through the process of photosynthesis, consume carbon dioxide (They actually need it) and produce oxygen! So, there's that!
    *Granted, there are plenty of other plants, in and around Disneyland to perform that function…..the loss of some grass probably won't make any difference.

  4. It makes me sad. First artificial turf, cuts the watering and the maintenance costs. Next will we see artificial flowers? Same justification. Then artificial trees? They already have one. The prophecy of the Serendipity Singers song "Plastic" may be coming true. All that real greenery helps to cool Disneyland on hot days. So expect to sweat more in the summer. My understanding is that for decades the rainwater runoff has been directed into the Rivers of America. Will they eventually treat the "black water" on site and put it into the moat and the "grey water" into the lagoon?

  5. Artificial grass just radiates more heat and fades over time. Go back to real green grass! Since they power wash the cement walkways every night, they can water the small areas of grass throughout the park.

  6. Judgment on the Nations
    A noise will come to the ends of the earth–
    For the LORD has (charges, a case) a controversy with the nations;
    He will plead His case with all flesh.
    He will give those who are wicked(unbelieving in Him and His Son, lawless, not worshipping Him) to the sword’, says the LORD.”
    Thus says the LORD of hosts:
    “Behold, disaster shall go forth
    From nation to nation,
    And a great whirlwind shall be raised up
    From the farthest parts of the earth.
    And at that day the slain of the LORD shall be from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. They shall not be lamented, or gathered, or buried; they shall become refuse on the ground.
    Jeremiah 25:31-33
    For the wrath of God(1-eternal wrath, which is hell, 2-the final Day of the Lord; 3-cataclysmic wrath like the flood, and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah; 4-consequential wrath, reap what you sow; 5-removing restraint and letting people go their sins Psalm 81:11, 12; Proverbs 1:23-31) is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead(divine nature, deity), so that they are without excuse because although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, not we're thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Processing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man –and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Romans 1:18-23.
    Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
    Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you–unless you believed in vain.
    For I delivered to you first if all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures(Genesis 1:9-13; 2 Kings 20:8; Psalm 16:9-11; 110:1; Isaiah 53:10; Hosea 6:2; Jonah 1:17; 2:10; Matthew 12:39, 40; Mark 8:31; Luke 11:29, 30; 24:26; John 2:19-21; Acts 2:25), and that He was seen by Cephas(Peter), then by the twelve. (the Catholic Church is a false church that teaches only leads to hell). After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain n to the present, but some have fallen asleep. 1 Corinthians 15:1-6.
    From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand(near). Matthew 4:17
    So the LORD God said to the serpent(physical serpent/spiritual serpent, the lying reducer, Satan):
    “Because you have done this,
    You are cursed more than all cattle,
    And more than every beast of the field;
    On your belly you shall go, (they had legs before)
    And you shall eat the dust
    All the days of your life.
    And I will put enmity(mutual hatred)
    Between you and the woman(Eve),
    And between your seed(Satan and unbelievers, who are called the Devil’s children in John 8:44) and her Seed(Jesus of Nazareth, and those in Him);
    He shall bruise your head,
    And you shall bruise His heel.”
    Genesis 3:14-15
    Read Luke 1:26-38;
    Jesus as Messiah…”But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins” Mark 2:10
    Jesus came to earth to give up His life and to save those who come to Him as our only Lord and Savior, those who confess their sins and unbelief. Jesus at 30 chose twelve disciples as witnesses, preached the gospel, healed the sick, cast out demons, and fed thousands. At 33, He was accused of blasphemy, scourged, hung with nails on the cross, and died. Our sins were laid on Him. Three days later He rose again, resurrected. Jesus is the Son of God and is God and co-creator. He led a righteous life which we can not do. His righteousness becomes our righteousness when we believe. Jesus was the unblemished, perfect sacrifice. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
    We have broken the Ten Commandments.
    And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this:’You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ Mark 12:30-31.
    Have no other gods before me(Budha, practiced yoga, Catholicism teaches to worship Mary as a virgin, and saints and angels, Vishnu, other Indian gods, Asian gods, Allah, Satan)
    Turning others into your gods. Like celebrities, athletes, Emperors, and religious leaders.
    Have you made idols?
    Have you taken the name of God in vain and Jesus and said holy__?
    Have you disobeyed your parent(s) the one(s) who raised you?
    Have you murdered(abortion, killed someone)? Do you support abortion? Why do they not say abortion but pro-choice?
    Have you looked at another with lust? Have you slept with someone who is not your spouse?
    Have you ever stolen? Money, car, clothes.
    Have you lied? Have you not been a good witness?
    Have you wanted more and more? Have you wanted something that your sibling, relative, friend, or co-worker has? Like their spouse, house, and car.
    Do you believe God created the Earth and heavens and seas and everything in them?
    Do you believe He sent His Son Jesus to save you?
    Under God you are deserving of punishment for disobedience to Him. God is a God of justice.
    He wants you to confess, ask for forgiveness, to give back what you stole or pay for it, to forgive and come under His grace or you are going to hell.
    Hell, then Judgment Day, then forever in the Lake of 🔥 Fire.
    Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. Galatians 6:7

    John MacArthur notes”Yet only those who see their own helplessness in the face of sin can come to see how gracious God has been in acting and choosing ahead of time.
    But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
    He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him. John 3:36
    Coming is the Great Day of the LORD
    That day is a day of wrath,
    A day of trouble and distress,
    A day of devastation and desolation,
    A day of darkness and gloominess,
    A day of clouds and thick darkness, Zephaniah 1:15
    For this a day of the Lord GOD of hosts,
    A day of vengeance,
    That He may avenge Himself on His adversaries,
    The sword shall devour;
    It shall be satiated and made
    drunk with their blood;
    For the Lord GOD of hosts has a sacrifice
    In the north country by the River Euphrates. Jeremiah 46:10
    I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart;
    I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation;
    I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth
    From the great assembly. Psalm 40:10

  7. i wish people would do more research on artificial grass. it is an environmental nightmare from its creation through shipping and long into its decay cycle. there are better ways to deal with the drought like native plants. why not extend imagineering into your landscaping. This is just lazy (kinda like my lack of capitalization) 🤷‍♂️

  8. yea, dont, use plants that thrive in that environment, use plastic. literally flooding the sewers with micro plastics that you will eat in the future inadvertantly, in your food. smart thinking from the mouse

  9. Climate change is real but removing real grass and trees helps make it worse. Artificial retains heat adding to the urban heat effect. Grass helps plants trees etc transpire placing moisture and oxygen in the atmosphere. The more trees and real grass we remove the more drought we cause. We need more of these things. Sure they’ll use more water but Over time they will pay off by helping cool areas, provide cleaner air, and even help seed the atmosphere for more rain.

  10. I don't think there's any argument… or choice. The lack of excess water for maintaining something as decorative as natural grass in what is, in fact, a desert, makes the decision easy. Plus I'm guessing there would be some penalties for excess water usage from the state if Disney balked on making the switch. So for Disney, any water savings you can squeeze out by re-landscaping becomes the smart choice.

  11. Wow everyone is focused on the water side. I bet that disney is thinking about the labor cost to maintaining the grass also. Fake doesn't need to be cut weekly (or more).

  12. The scaffolding on the Matterhorn is all on the East side Waterfalls. If you are ever at the park when a big Santa Ana wind is blowing and the water falls are running, you would see just how much water is wasted with those winds blowing all that water onto the tracks. When I worked Nemo, we used to laugh all the time when we watch a bobsled go through all that displaced water when a big wind gust came through. The waterfall on the West side of the mountain isn't as affected with the winds and are at a much lower water loss,

  13. As an Arizonan, I’m fully on board with this. Phoenix is the worst about putting real grass in completely unused areas for purely aesthetic purposes. It’s as if they don’t realize we live in a desert.

  14. Thank you again Dave. The word you are lookinmg for is "Drought resistant plants". they have been putting in more of these for years now. The "artificial turf"they are using is of a very high quality and fine bladed. It will save on water use,certainly,cur down on maintenence and use of gas powered tools. It will also give uniform color for picture taking. Trees do not use much water and usually find their own down there underground.
    I am a landscape contractor by trade and this is really a smart move for them as a corparate cirizen and the esthetic will be good.
    BTW..the entire esplanade is brick that allows water to drain through to a system that recycles the water back into the system.. Wherever you seen the brick in place,ie the parking lot that is the case. It is really a smart move all the way around.
    I do prefer "real grass" but this is a very smart and expensive move by Disney.
    Beside..they need to send the water to Cotino for that stupid lake in the desert.

  15. As someone who’s extremely interested in climate change and sustainability, I really enjoyed this video, thank you David! It’s also great to see the parks trying to do their part where they can. Still not a fan of them building a beach/lake in the middle of the desert for Cotino though 😣
