  1. fun fact: if 1 is 50 cents less, then 10 are 5dollars less
so if you do the math, you have successfully saved 2500 dollars (considering you 5000$ worth of that)

as an Asian I never failed my math test (but my dad doesn't know that I got a C- in math this time)

  2. Vegan here. Cats are obligate carnivores which meats they can not handle unprocessed plant foods well and can't get nutrients from it so cats should not eat veggies. That said, in theory, processed plant foods can remove the carbs and fiber and add vegan friendly forms of preformed vitamins that cats need. So, in theory, we can make plant based cat food that is healthy for cats.

The issue comes down to regulation. Pet food is poorly regulated so the vegan alternatives out there may not be suitable for cats (dogs have much more wiggle room than cats). Also these products are new and there may be limited third party and long term research on them.

You're best bet, if you want to have a plant based lifestyle is to talk to a vet about it and plant to see a vet more often for routine physicals (just to make sure everything is okay). Preferably see a vegan vet as they would more closely align with your values on this issue while also being more likely to keep up with vegan pet food research since it would likely be very important to them and have likely thought long and hard about the moral issue of balancing the cruelty towards livestock with the health a cat. This way, they can give you their expert opinion on what you should do from a place that nearly aligns with your values on this issue.

Bonus fun fact: Like most adult mammals, adult cats lose the ability to digest lactose and many adult cats are lactose intolerant. For this reason, many vets recommend just giving cats plain water as a drink.
