Exploring Suchitoto, El Salvador: Lake Views, Civil War History, and Amazing Coffee

Welcome to El Salvador for the next episode of my series in the country.

In this vlog, I explore Suchitoto, a historic colonial town in El Salvador known for its vibrant streets, rich history, and stunning views of Lake Suchitlán. This wasn’t initially on my list of places to visit, but another traveller told me it is a must, and my word, were they correct!

I share travel tips, including how to get there via the affordable local bus and my stay at Hotel y Cafe Ixmati, located in the heart of the town.

Highlights include visiting the Santa Lucía Church, strolling through colourful streets, Alejandro Cotto’s House, enjoying local cuisine, and savouring coffee at must-visit spots like Casa 1800 and Café Ix Canal. I also take a Civil War Tour with Suchitoto Eco Tours, which offers an emotional dive into El Salvador’s history, including hikes, guerrilla camp visits, and conversations with a former guerrilla fighter.

The vlog showcases the serene beauty of Lake Suchitlán, featuring awesome local food and tranquil lakeside views. Suchitoto is revealed as a peaceful yet vibrant destination, rich in culture, history, and charm.

I absolutely loved the colourful houses as I walked around town, drinking in the atmosphere, exploring every angle of Lake Suchitlán and having the best coffee. You have to visit when in El Salvador, get it booked in!
