Exploring Death Valley's Lost Lake at the Lowest Point in North America

Lake Manly is a rare natural lake that only appears after periods of heavy rain in Death Valley National Park. It had not appeared for over two decades before Hurricane Hilary in Southern California brought it back to life. We went to visit this unique spot and had a blast exploring a lake that formed at the lowest point in North America. Let us know what you think in the comments!

  1. Not long after your video, there was a wind event and the wind literally blew the whole lake 2 miles south! The rangers say it will slowly flow back to the lowest spot where it was before.

  2. Another hidden gem disclosed.! Must be a real thrill going on a hike with you guys. Friendly, smiley (sometimes even cheeky but this is how we like it) , great mindset, positive energy & great vibes, not to forget savvy information for newbies. Glued to Youtube every Sunday night for new episodes. Keep up the good work!☝

  3. Be careful in the Devil’s Golf Course. Made the mistake of climbing and ended up cutting my shin. Still, we went in December 2023 and the “lake” had just started forming.

  4. So cool !!! I was there the year it turned 133 degrees. In fact, the day before! And Josh was so helpful answering my questions before my trip! I believe in Badwater there were tadpoles. Do you think the lake helps them thrive?
So cool you were there Josh for this unique experience.

  5. Thanks Josh great video. I saw the same location on Wonderhussy's channel, a few weeks ago. She was able to kayak, but she doesn't stick around for the sunsets. I remember doing a marathon in death valley a few years back, we lodged in Furnace Creek nearby. Maybe you can do a Death Valley weekend or week shoot. The area is so big with trails and canyons.

  6. Beautiful place! Love to see somebody so upbeat, full of wonder (even if you've been there several times before) and respectful of the land, sharing your joy with the world! Artist's Drive is one of my faves, sad we didn't see it in this video but maybe next time 🙂 Spotted some military jets doing some donuts in the sky, wonder if any of the pilots got pictures of Lake Manly from up there 🙂

  7. I’m just looking at another video on YouTube where they’re saying you need a permit to shoot in the national park and I’ve seen you shoot a lot of stuff before. Have you not gotten in trouble for doing this because I like to shoot a lot of video myself. And I was just there last week gorgeous place.

  8. I visited in November after the roads reopened. The lake looks quite a bit bigger in your video, although it was still amazing and mind boggling last fall. Definitely worth visiting since who knows if it'll happen again for a long time.

  9. Amazing as usual from the vibes, editing, shots, and narration. 🙂 We went to Death Valley in end of January and were lucky enough to catch the lake as well. Zabriskie Point was a delight at sunrise. Thinking about staying in Vegas and driving over instead of driving over from LA though and staying in the park.

  10. Oh wow – I had no idea the size of the lake! That is insane! I have some friends that were able to kayak there – kind of a once in a lifetime thing! I'm kind of partial to the name "Manly" as William Lewis Manly hiked out of Death Valley & back in to save my ancestors (Bennett family – the ones stuck in the valley floor in 1849). Loved this 🙂
