Gold Derby editors and Experts Christopher Rosen and Joyce Eng discuss the Oscar shortlists, which were full of notable snubs. “Barbie” leads the way with five mentions — but in three categories. “Society of the Snow” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” follow with four apiece. Is the former the next “All Quiet on the Western Front”?

❤🎉
I'm happy that "The Holdovers" and "The Boy and The Heron" are shortlisted for score.
How the hell does Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 miss the shortlist for Makeup when it broke a record for the most prosthetics on a film at 22,540? That's beyond an omission, it's a disgrace!👎
The super hero films were bad, and that is why they were not in these categories.
I have to say it: Amidst all the many worthy awards/movies sites I subscribe to, nobody out there holds me to quite the extent y'all do. Hey, Chris, huge congrats on the Lily Gladstone interview, which was magical, you've never been better. Hey, Joyce, huge congrats on existing in this crazy movie world, nobody does it better. As ever, youse twose are the berries. Happiest of holidays. More, please, thank you.
You two seem happier. Did something happen good? Not my business! 🎉
I need to see Godzilla Minus One win Best VFX and The Boy and The Heron win Best Animation and Score. I really love Ludvig's score but Hisaishi deserves it over him.
if Ferrari gets nominated for Sound I swear that category is a joke. watched it last night and the film was rife with audio issues, there were scenes where you could hear the sound of the film equipment running OVER the ambient noise, audio cues would come in and go out with fades as if they were edited using smartphone apps, audio levels would fluctuate wildly during CONVERSATION scenes, there were at least a half dozen instances of HORRIBLE ADR. I get that it's a "car" movie and those automatically get pushed up in these categories but you have to be completely checked out in order to nominate that film for Sound.
among all the other snubs that have already been mentioned, really disappointed to see Spinning Globe from The Boy and The Heron and Kanata Haluka from Suzume not making the short list for Best Original Song. I'm not even an anime person but I loved those films, and those songs were easily the two best ones I've heard in a film this year.
YAY lol
Joyce on Nolan: "He doesn't give a sh*t. ”What are shortlists?”” 😂😂
Hey Chris, remember when back when you and Joyce did your first 2023 Emmy predictions in March, you read an email from me correctly predicting Cillian Murphy, Downey and Emily Blunt for Oscar nominations? Look where we are now! I told you Joyce it wasn't another Dunkirk scenario. Haha I knew.👉
Pretty obvious I’m upset Better Place is not on the short list for Best Original Song. What a missed opportunity to get an *NSYNC performance for their first new song in over 20 years!!! I think it was a victim of the actor’s strike and the inability to properly promote it and make a music video too.
I guess the Academy wants those low ratings 😐
However, thank you Chris for the mention on todays episode! Love you guys so much. Thank you for letting me fangirl these last few weeks!
I’m fully on the ‘I’m Just Ken’ train from here on out! No way will they give Billie a second Oscar this young. Or probably just go so left field and finally give it to Diane Warren 😅
I am seeing a tendency among some critics and experts(so called) to raise a mediocre movie like Barbie to the realm of a great movie. Some like it Hot is a great movie, My fair lady is a great movie about empowerment not Barbie. Barbie is an ambitious movie that tries to be great, funny and different but does not really succeed on any of those fronts. Please stop overhyping Barbie and get over your personal biases.
Hey Chris will you and Joyce and the other with editors Matt Noble host a Golden Globes post show in January and why did you not do one last year? Really wanted to hear Tony Ruiz's thoughts about how terrible the Globes show was last year.
Jodie Foster is the standout in Nyad. I remember her more than Annette Benning.
Zone of interest has amazing cinematography and sound editing
