Expert says the Chinese military could seize Taiwan’s government buildings in under an hour

Images of Chinese warships seen off the coast of Taiwan served as a dire warning of a potential invasion that could disrupt the technology supply chain, plunge the world into an economic catastrophe, and start a hot war between the U.S. and China. NBC News’ Ken Dilanian speaks with a geopolitics expert who believes an actual invasion could be over before the U.S. even has a chance to respond.

  1. "Expert"? It lost its meaning years ago. The "respectability" to this term has lost its value and is long gone. Politically-directed opinions tend to come from "experts."

  2. China will never do this. Not ever! Since the CCP Incorporated, they have not been into a single real war. Vietnam proxy war, North Korean proxy war, and India China border conflict. That's it!

They have never been the aggressor. Not once. Yet every day in our news for the past 20 years you been saying that are.

Lol. It's common sense as to why they have such a large military buildup in the South China Sea. It's obvious.

It's because the US military has been running multinational military drills 100 miles away from the Chinese mainland. That's why the Chiense are trying to have a large presence there.

Let's put it in reverse. Could you imagine if China conducted multinational military drills 100 miles form our mainland? Let's say they conducted these drills with Russia and Iran. Let's say it's in the Gulf of Mexico. Would that not be an act of war on America? Yes it would be. And yet this is what we do to China constantly.

Another very important point. Our economies are about the same size. Yet the Chinese intentionally only spend 1/3 of what the US does on its own military. That's part of their policy actually. They could match us, but they don't. Want to know why?

It's because China only cares about China. It's military never leaves it's Chinese waters. They only care about protecting their own land. That's why they only spend 1/3 of what we do.

if they wanted to be a global superpower they would match Us in spending, and military expansions. But they don't.

so for the love of everything I wish the media would just shut up.

  3. We can win dont let the media lie to another person here were doing better than we think and the ccp knows it. Our media is crushing the hopes of millions just to be the first to say were losing even when its not happening. We can win we can stop them fight on.

  4. Pure numbers will overwhelm Taiwan. But China is going to be the big loser even if they take Taiwan. They will lose many or most of their western markets. And if the US is involved, much of China's infrastructure will be destroyed. It is foolish to think China will stop at Taiwan. China is today's 1930's Japan.

  5. Experts and journalists always oversimplify when discussing what might happen. There is much more to it than just how fast front-line troops can get to the battle. Remember, Taiwan, the US, and its allies will know what China is doing ahead of time. There is no such thing as a surprise attack these days. Intelligence is just too good. Plus, China needs to weigh what it will lose if it invades Taiwan. China faces major economic and material destruction in retaliation for an invasion. It will lose its Navy, Air Force, Missile, and Space assets and be isolated in the World economy for decades. The expert in this article discussed what China could do, but he never mentioned that Taiwan knows more than he does or that Taiwan has been preparing for many decades. Taiwan can mount a very strong defense.

  6. Taiwan and Hong Kong are part of China. If China invades itself, why should anyone care? China is the number one trading partner of Taiwan and Hong Kong. China cares about Chinese people. The US does nothing for Asian people. The US is a gun shop with nuclear missiles.

  7. Experts also said with sanctions, Russia will have nothing to fight with except shovels but I still see Abram tanks disabled and Bradleys destroyed. Russia has really good shovels!!

  8. Stop fear and war mongering. China will not attack Taiwan because they are not stupid. Economic growth and stability are still their primary focus. Keeping the status quo is in their best interest right now. China is still poor and weak.

  9. As a defense analyst, I’ll say this now.
    1. We will not intervene with direct action off the bat, it will be very similar to Ukraine. It will fail and end up in navy intervention which will lead to direct combat. It will take one DDG or CG to be hit to escalate to a full on pacific theater.
    2. Our air superiority from neighboring countries and the navy will contest and dominate the island in weeks. Leading to offensive strikes further on our navy to cripple it before an Australian and Japanese homeland strike happens. Boats will be sank or damaged.
From there a more aggressive strike will occur.
    3. Now it will be a full pacific war. All American capabilities will be used. More than majority of Chinese ports, bases, ship yards, staging grounds, radar and anti air systems will be leveled in a month. With a respectable amount of American losses via the first carrier, destroyers and cruisers damaged, don’t expect them to sink, possibly a destroyer or two.
    4. American air and sea superiority will make this all happen in massive salvos. DDGS will dump its VLS, SSBMS will dump there payloads by the time a replacing fleet is a day from Japan. Rinse and repeat.
Will only stead fast onboard rearmament
Capabilities the U.S. already is in the process of making possible at sea and neighboring ports. Neighboring ports like Australia and Japan will have rearmament capabilities flown and sailed in via c-17 and cargo ships to speed up re arming warships and planes. instead of home ports.
China won’t use nukes because why fight for an island they can’t inhabit if one is used.
    It will be only conventional.
Many boats will be lost on both sides more Chinese than us by far. Our air defense will do a good job but the Chinese missile force is a good one.
    5. If our military leaders and president is smart this won’t be dealt with diplomatically at first but should be executed aggressively and swiftly…

If we pull punches and do sanctions in the middle of this all to save global face we will drag it out for years like Russia x Ukraine.

To prevail, we must be aggressive, swift and committed to our action of violence and position of power.

This is our doctrine, but it can very well be thrown in the trash if our leader wants to be more soft handed or turn a blind eye.
Which I see as an equal possibility.
    It’s either:
    A) don’t get involved at all.
    B) be soft handed and jeopardize our current global force projection
    C) swift violence in quick succession

We loose in all three scenarios, but I pray for option C

  11. Whenever western countries use “china experts” these are usually white guys who knows nothing about China. The only expert part they have is just mentioning China in their BS talks.
People who understands China knows that China is actually a peaceful nation who only wants to protect it’s borders and peaceful reunification with Taiwan, this has been reiterated many times

  12. This will happen once China has doubled the size of their navy. Because they will lose half of it if we get involved. For now they need the money. China won't destroy infrastructure, they need it. Considering NBC's left wing bias, it's surprising they would run this, considering we all know Biden will dither on this forever. Considering that Biden has done everything possible to shut down our strategic manufacturing capability and farmed it out to China, really makes NBC's choice to run this more puzzling. I guess this slipped past the DNC sensors.
