  1. Why follow a book 📖 translated by men period 🤔… Can we not as human beings make our own choices with our own lives. I choose not to follow this book (Bible) as a premise for how I should live my life. Like all so called self help books its ALL someone's opinion. Good bad or indifferent. Opinions are like azzholes everybody's got one 😆. It's your choice… Keep up the amazing work Lloyd 👏 👌 💪

  2. Remember that obscure episode of the old testament when Saul went to see a medium and talked with the ghost of Samuel (1 Sam chap 28) ? This story can be quite disturbing for JWs – who don't believe in the immortality of the soul – especially since it directly contradicts other Bible verses like Ecl 9 v 5,6.

How do you fix that ?

NWT solution : insert quotation marks (didn't know those existed in ancient hebrew…) in 1 Sam 28 each time "Samuel"'s ghost is mentioned, as well as a note saying that this was not Samuel, but "what appeared to be Samuel". Accordingly, JWs will say that what is described in 1 Sam 28 is actually a demon pretending to be Samuel.

  3. I faded and left the org back in 2017. Someone saw me vaping a week ago and the elders asked me a handful of questions. Have yet to hear if I’m DFed or not. Just a very bizarre situation based on my past.

  4. These are close to my heart because when I found out JW leadership took that one picture out of that Latin book to show Jesus died on a stake when in fact that book showed 16 different possible "crucifixions". I mentally de-converted at that moment due to their lying in the appendix of THEIR holy book, showing the only thing they consider holy is themselves. Insert profanity of your choice.
Of course, the deconstruction will continue for the rest of my life.
    THANKS Lloyd!!!
    PS. I love bible hub.

  5. Ephesians… I wonder if the original author cogged that bit from the LXX and messed up the preposition. I’ll need look that up.

Ephesians I believe is contested as to whether Paul actually wrote it, I’m almost sure.

  6. I like these episodes.

Maybe you may have done it already but one more thing that might be absolutely fantastic is an episode discussing all the NWT editions.

I think I have a half arsed idea of, say, how we got to the ESV, ie

Tyndale (majority text) -> KJV -> revised -> RSV (NA/UBS) -> ESV and some basic ideas why things happened and what motivated it, but not so sure about NWT,

An episode on that would be great, means a bit of research though.

Point me to your episode please if you’ve already done it? Thanks

(P.S. where do I find physical copies of NWT?)

  7. Hi Lloyd. I’m unsubscribing now, not because of you or content. But you have helped me finish getting away from that hole that religion is. Thank you. I’m disconnecting from anything related. Thank you again. My life is filled with happiness now. I’m free. Cheers. Stay awesome.

  8. Jesus saying 'i am' is a definite gospel writer echo of God at burning bush and naming God as 'I am'. When Jesus walks across the water in reassuring disciples he iis written as saying don't worry I am 'ego imi' in greek, though most english translations have variation of don't worry its m,e – as that reads better in english, but misses the intention of the writer

  9. I'm totally cool with "I have been" I mean come on, Jesus was speaking Aramaic, the Jews would've had to convert that to greek then turn around and say hey what does the Septuagint say in Exodus and make all these connections then get mad at Jesus lol the whole thing is so ridiculous

  10. When I was questioning my jw belief I read chuck Russell's books to find out why we didn't believe in the Trinity, or Jesus bodily resurrection, and I was like this guy kind of made some sense, until I read what real bible people said about it, then I was like this is all nonsense and I think everyone knew it so they came up with the Trinity and other stuff because it corraled all the inconsistent stuff in the bible and makes internal consistencies out of it all, and it wasn't until the 1800s that people got their underpants in a twist. Human history is so weird.

  11. But is it true the ones he punished were from the tribe of Dan who had sold him out to some other god …..and wasn't David influenced by Satan to do the senses??…..or was Satan sent by Jehovah nit sure ….so those destroyed were those who left him anyway not his people ???

  12. Here’s what I think is going on with psalms 68:18. Disclaimer I’m not a Bible scholar but I do have some familiarity with how Hebrew works. The word used in this text is ba-adam, containing the word adam which means man with a prepositional prefix that has a wide variety of meaning depending on context. The “b” prefix can mean in, with, among, against, or by means of. Taken out of context it can mean “gifts in men” but with the context considered it most likely means “gifts through (by means of) men” meaning that the men are conveyers of the gifts and not the gifts themselves. Hope that was helpful! 🙂

  13. Also note Colossians 2:9 is in the present tense after the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. So he's (Jesus Christ) in bodily form as full deity in the present not past tense.

    Hmmm they missed it.

  14. It doesn't matter whether the translations are in agreement. What matters is whether the Bible is in agreement with itself, when it comes to translating. 2 Samuel as translated by Jehovah's Witnesses is in harmony with 1 Chronicles 21:1 which says " Then Satan stood up against Israel and incited David to number Israel." thus explaining that it was Satan, not Jehovah who incited David to number people. The translators of NWT humbly put 'one' as it could have also meant that Jehovah God allowed Satan to do it (as a punishment for something else), so didn't put 'Satan' there even though 1 Chr 21:1 says it was Satan. It all makes sense , and there's no need for creating theories that God punished Israel for obeying Him.

  15. Religions inherently corrupt changing scripture to support their own unique bible interpretations shouldn't be surprising.
There is a reason why the leaders of the JWS (GB) admonished their followers to not read the bible alone ???
They lied and misrepresented bible scripture for their own own sake, not the righteousness purity of god.

  16. John 8:58 simply makes sense in English and renders what Jesus was really saying ( and that is obvious from the context ). In English this is best expressed by using the Present Perfect Tense. Translating does not mean exchanging words for words, it means conveying the thought, the real meaning.

  17. Ephesians 4:8 . When you go further down you may read what sort of gifts Paul means by quoting Psalm 68:18. – Ephesians 4: 11.12 explains that the gifts were …. ,surprise, surprise, IN MEN : And he gave some as apostles, some as prophets,+ some as evangelizers, some as shepherds and teachers, 12 with a view to the readjustment of the holy ones, for ministerial work, to build up the body of the Christ. The gifts are in men given to the men. Psalm 68:18 itself speaks of gifts from( among, in ) men. To properly translate any verse one must understand what it is about, and the NWT seems to gets it right.

  18. 1 Chronicles 21:1 is a parallel account to 2 Samuel 24:1 and clearly states that Satan made David take a census. Watchtower saw the obvious contradiction and tried to fix it. So much for the inerrant word of god.
