Dino Crisis is a distinct series amongst Capcom’s output. In four short years, from 1999 to 2003, we got 3 mainline titles and a spinoff. Dino Crisis has been extinct ever since.

A series pulled from the foundations of Resident Evil to the point where it was known as “resident evil with dinosaurs”. It would then take a different, action-heavy approach with future titles.

Each title has a vast difference from the last. Some changes worked, and some did not. A bungled third mainline title would serve as the series end.

Yet the series has lived on with a strong following hankering for Capcom to return to the series.

Straps yourselves in, this is going to be a bumpy ride as we dig up and study the Dino Crisis series.

  1. I'm sorry but, Dino Crisis 1 sucks ass. I beat it last year for the first time and I hated it. Some cool ideas here and there but, hated characters, respawning enemies and their giganormous hitboxes and an abrupt ending just killed it for me.

  2. FYI dc2 in this video looks choppy and pixelated, which isn’t how it looks on PlayStation, which looks much better and smoother. Currently the best way to play the game over hdmi is via a PS3 and the actual disc. You can press start and enable smoothing, which makes it look far better than any PC port. I don’t think an HD version has been properly made for PC yet.

I’ve beat dc2 20ish times since 2001. It’s the framework that led to Resident Evil 4 being as good as it was.

Puzzles in the first game hurt its replayability. Really surprised you don’t enjoy the boss battles in dc2, I think it makes the game a blast since it’s super hard to get a perfect no damage run on most of those.

  3. 10 year old me got stuck on that damn puzzle, where you have to flip the two key-cards upside down to see the numbers. Took me months, but then again I probably shouldn't have been playing this at that age 😂😂.

  4. Capcom seems to have become extremelly economical (in a good sense) recently with re-using assets and stuff, I do think that Exoprimal's existence gives a lot of hope for a Dino Crisis Remake, it's like two stones one bird right, they're trying again to get that live service multiplayer game going AND now they have dino's animation all rigged up.

I think 3's hate is a bit too much and most often than not comes from people parroting stuff they heard over personal experience, its not like, a great game but there's some fun in there, not as boring as DMC2, the mechanics aren't as half-baked, its just, that goddamn camera, the map, the backtracking can be annoying too, cause of the map.

DC2 is my favorite, i love all the noises and OST it has, it's all ingrained in my brain but also, looking back, it kinda was RE4 before RE4, the change to action, a shop, upgrades, different weapons, even if it seems more arcadey you do kinda get points in RE4 in the form of the money, its kinda neat.

  5. Surprised you didn't mentionabout the fingerprint "puzzle" in DC1, made what are otherwise essentially static entities more relevant than just item pickup spot/ or world building/ flavor text.

  6. I really hope they gonna remake this franchise. I remember having DC1 when I was a kid but never played more than an hour coz it was on Japanese. DC2 however was my very first single player game that I beat. I remember beating it twice or thrice every other month.
