Evidence of First Ghosts with Irving Finkel

Irving Finkel, PhD, is Senior Assistant Keeper of ancient Mesopotamian script, languages, and cultures at the British Museum. He is the curator in charge of cuneiform inscriptions on tablets of clay from ancient Mesopotamia, of which the Middle East Department has the largest collection of any modern museum. He is author of several books, including, The First Ghosts: Most Ancient of Legacies, The Ark Before Noah: Decoding the Story of the Flood, The Lewis of Chessman and What Happened to Them, and The Last Resort Library. The British Museum website is britishmuseum.org.

Irving Finkel discovered many clay tablets with cuneiform writing about ghosts from ancient Mesopotamia. He suggests that belief in ghosts is widespread across all cultures and underpins all religions. He deciphered the first depiction of a ghost in a clay tablet that is in the Guinness Book of World Records.

  2. Very interesting interview and amazing insight into the ancient world which so few could have the first hand understanding of.

A little disappointing that aliens were seen as rubbish though, this is still human experience and for all we know these could be ghosts from the future. The ancients may have had excellent clear skies and may have interpreted UFOs as gods or spirits…. Great interview all the same.

    Thank you!

  3. Really interesting interview! I find it strange that the doctor has never seen a ghost but hopes to see one, and has never received a response to prayer but does not seem to hope for that. That is a funny bias

  4. Great interview but you lost me at the comment that there is no evidence that " aliens " every existed since have been writing about flying, teleporting, and shape shifting non-biological life influencing us ever since we could even hold up a chisel to clay.

  5. many years ago a few days after my father died i saw a huge dragonfly in our kitchen. i followed it as it flew over to the window behind the curtain. i opened the curtain expecting to see it but it was gone. i remember hearing some years later that the dragonfly is a messenger between the worlds of the living and the dead.

  6. What an endearing and interesting Gentleman. Brilliant stuff, i have to add when he mentioned someone contesting the oldest ghost on record because a ghost of a dinosaur was spotted in the south of England, i almost split my sides and whistled in my Y fronts laughing. I wasn't expecting that 😂

  7. I deeply respect this man and his opinion however he couldn't be more wrong on the subject of UFOs. For an academic like him I'm sure it's easy to lose your time in libraries and completely dismiss current videos and testimonies about UFOs and aliens.
