Apollo style mission may get you to the moon but it wont allow you stay there. Seeing how much risk they are willing to take they may just make it before anyone else in a kamikaze fashion.

Since Long March-10 has never flown, it would be nice to mention the Starship. That is nearly 10 times the lift capacity of the Long March 10. Starship can carry 250 tons in a non -reusable form, nearly 10 times that of the Long March-10..

I'm beginning to wonder if the focus on reusability and size might be working against Space X and NASA. Look at the progress the Chinese are making with more "traditional" moon landing systems. It won't be much good having a huge, reusable rocket if the Chinese run the moon base and they have all the advantages of that
Don’t forget the fact that China has been banned from engaging in international space development and other international space activities since 1994.
Take note Americans. Just because YOUR businesses choose to import the cheapest, crappiest quality items from China to sell to you, it doesn't mean China is incapable to cutting edge tech and manufacturing.

i have such mixed feelings about Chinas space ambitions on the one hand the more countries and companies working on utilising space the better on the other hand the Chinese government has repeatedly shown willingness to act unilaterally in there own self interest and i worry that might spread to space
I honestly have higher hope for China to achieve the human returning to the moon than NASA.
Space and heavenly objects are first come first serve. No one can claim something for future desire.

Great update, thanks. I think considering the heavily politically influenced decisions about who and how organisations in the US contrubute to NASA's achievements, its unlikely the US can catch up with China in the development of a lunar base or exploration of lunar resources.
