  1. Sorry this one took SO long but I knew it wouldn't perform great on views and 2022 was really dicey revenue wise due to all of the many copyright claims and bugs I had to deal with. At any one point in time I had at least 10 on the go for a great many months last year. Really happy to finally get it out to you all now though and if you'd like to assist, a tip is greatly welcome to make up the difference in revenue and of course liking, commenting and sharing etc. Thanks for watching and for reading this and I really and truly hope that you enjoy the video!

  2. I started this series multiple times giving it another try cause its so popular, but I never got past episode 3. Watching it killed me on the inside cause it bored me to death Idk why either. I was waiting for this to maybe tell me what people like about the show. But pretty much all wins up to where I watched are stylistic, animation, voice and scene direction and music. Thats nice and all but not something that makes me enjoy something. I also found the dialogue very cringe, like a 13 year old edgelord wrote it. Very unnatural very wannabe intellectual and I dont know shit about the main character. I guess I'll just give up on this show and let it rest as something of which I simply just can't understand the appeal.

  3. Finally. Our long waiting has paid off. Praise the Sun.

Edit : Okay I've finished watching it. Really thank you for that. As it's a really peculiar kind of anime, of the "you love it or you hate it" breed it's always hard to recommend or talk about.
But for me, the very specific atmosphere, animation direction, and of course the witty dialogues going back and forth, being sometimes nonsensical on the surface but actually deeper when you know the whole deal… And the music who always fits perfectly.
Definitely my favourite of all time, by far. I never found any anime who could replicate this kind of feeling. Recently I loved Yofukashi no Uta who treats some similar thematics, but the vibe is still different (but awesome in its own way !)
Sayounara Zetsubou-Sensei is probably the most similar of all, having the same director and main VA, I hugely recommend it as well.

So now, tell me your price. How much for winning the entire series until the end ? xD

  4. The monogatari series is hands down my favourite anime series ever, the story telling is very unique and amazing to boot. Honestly tho i feel you should watch it in the chronological order and start with the three movies first that let to bakemonogatari because it just makes so much more sense that way. However watching it like this doesn't take away from the story that the creator is trying to build. Amazing video and thank you so much for covering a lot of my favourite animes.

  5. Glad this one is finally out, Bakemonogatari is one of my favorite shows and franchises, I need to get Nise in on a future Patreon Poll, As the whole franchise is a fun ride and it would be amazing if you could get it all covered.

  6. congratulations, you got through the prologue of the franchise!

Also, each of the openings are representations of the struggles that each girl is going through through heavy metaphor usage.

The most on-the-nose one is Hachikuji's Kaerimichi, in which she lives in a world without other people, constantly trying to amuse herself and struggling to do anything right. The song itself is about the mechanics of her being the Lost Snail and how it's normal for no day to end happy for her, along with how every day is the same for her year-round, but she never lost the hope that she will someday make it back to her home and that there must be some odd way to make it happen.

  7. The fact that how Bakemonogatari handles these kind of tropes for example the romcom aspect of it as for an harem anime, Araragi chooses the character that is least likely to win refering to Senjougahara. With her unaproachable aura and her attitude at the first few episodes you would expect that Hanekawa will be the best candidate to win in this kind of situation based on the expectations on the tropes in romances anime or in general. There are many more things that could be said just bakemonogatari alone.

  8. 33:13 I don't know if you noticed, but the janken (rock paper scissors) game Koyomi and Hitagi play in the ED of episodes 9, 10, 11, 13, and 14 are connected.

9: Hitagi wins twice and they tie twice.
10: Koyomi has removed his shirt and pants. Koyomi wins twice and they tie twice.
11: Hitagi has removed her tights, and presumably panties (her skirt appears to be undone). They tie three times and Koyomi wins once.
13: No apparent clothing change, but Hitagi's eyes are narrowed. Koyomi wins four times.
14: No apparent clothing change, but Koyomi is looking down at his (winning) hand while Hitagi leans forward staring at him.

    Hitagi always throws scissors.

  9. It is such a strange and great series. Many anime tried to copy some of the animation styles and failed horribly, scenes are never boring besides a LOT of dialog and it is one of the few series i paused every scene to read what was shown on those 1-2 sec colored inner dialog screens. And even now, about 10 years after I watched the first season I am still every now and then using "I flubbed" or "I stuttered" or adding way too many repeating syllables to any word starting with "ar" 🙂.

  12. So two things here (see what I did?)
I watched the episode 1 part of the video, closed out of YouTube, and literally just watched these 15 episodes today because I HAD to know wtf this series was. Several hours later I just came back and finished your video. Great job!
Second thing: what service did you watch it on? The translations were slightly different than mine (Crunchyroll USA)?
Discovered your page a few months ago and you have very quickly become one of my favorite channels to watch!

  13. Being one of my absolute favourite series out there along with Mob, Jojo and Gintama this is a welcome addition to the watch through, tagalong and even rewatches over the course of time.
This is a weird series even by weird standards with its complex characters, the ballistic action and the over the top exposition handled in no way other than perfect.
For the casual viewer they get the gist of everything quick. But for anyone who wants to know what truly is afoot, using the flash cards and the info dumps are a goldmine as translation from novel to anime must have been a nightmare usually.
Shaft did an amazing job with this series imo. Thank you bud for finally letting us witness the joy of someone seeing this.

  14. I remember this from years ago. I remember it was a little fast and I didn't understand a few things, but I do remember it being quite the visual and literal experience. I was wondering where Shinobu was for a lot, then that last part happened and I remembered, she was only really a background character til that moment, getting more screen time in the following show. Go thing I remembered, I was gonna get cross at ya boi, for forgetting our favorite dounut loving blonde loli vampire XD

  15. Great work on this review, you managed to get almost all of the great points. And, considering the complexity of the writing in the original novels with how inspired this adaptations are, you did a damn good job.

  16. I watched this show in my first year in high school. It's crazy how after watching this video I realize that too much of it flew over my head when I watched because I was too young to understand.

  17. after watching 90 episodes and the movies the monogatari series is definitely in my top 3, don't pass up the opportunity to watch it but be warned you HAVE to be dedicated cause the whole series (especially nisemonogatari) has scenes that are quite questionable that couldn't be shown for monitisation reasons but thank you Mr Anime Wins for my new favourite video on your channel

  18. LOVE to see this show get the praise that it deserves just seeing the thumbnail made me want to go back and watch it again and think to myself why it never got a dub for it to be so good and to find out that the writer is so good at his job that it's pretty much impossible to translate because he's so good at what he does chef kiss this series is a master piece and more people should really give it the time of day that they give lesser shows

  19. There is a ton of interesting symbolism in every OP in this series.
The Hachikuji OP is my fav personally because of how damn impressive the symbolism is.
The OP has her in a city where everyone is her, shes with herself in every scene, or putting it another way, "By Herself", which is the life she had chosen for herself these past 10 years so she wouldnt have to make anyone else lost like she is. Really damn poignant.

  20. I like how their faces picture the line of which they are saying. Normally you would see people either talking angry or scared just by the moment of the area/situation they are in. But in here, it's by everything

  21. A thing to note is that in the novels there close to no action descriptions or environments, characters descriptions are also very brief. The author even said his characters where the dialogue, the whole franchise are speeches and monologues about various themes and the anime with its over the top and strange sense of art that takes over every dialogue is the best possible way to adapt this shows. Because if you watch the first arc you notice something interesting, nothing happened, it was a total of 6 or 7 dialogue scenes and the it was over, and its great, there is no action only the exploration of trauma of a teenage girl that sinks you in the characters mind and you don't even notice much of it. The writing of the work and it's adaptation are by far one of the greatest of all time

  22. I saw that… win 43… GG, sir… GG indeed.

Also, during that scene after Senjougahara is freed of the Crab – the music playing is a piano version of the OP for that arc… you'll hear more of that sort of thing going on in the series… sometimes they're just leit motifs, and others are just piano covers of the OP proper.

Senjougahara's birthday is July 7th, making her a Cancer – Cancer is represented by the crab, and its heavenly body is the Moon – which makes so much sense to me, and pairs well with her enjoyment of staring at the stars, and the Summer Triangle of Deneb, Altair, and Vega – which are all sung about in the ED as well. How much care and love they put into the music and lyrics shows how passionate the folks animating this were.

  23. When senjougahara talks about the balance of metals followed by 97Kg of bad intentions, the ratios are the same as for Cupronickel, which was used to jacket bullets. I think she said she has a 97Kg bullet of bad intentions (other translations say spite).
