I remember when the Necron codex came out all the armchair generals in the comments here bitching about how crap they were now and giving me loads of sarcasm about it. Ahh how sweet is vindication!
Toughness 4 Space Marine infantry feels like it's made of paper because every meaningful weapon in the game is -2AP 2 Damage and above strength, quite often strength 8 in any plasmas case. So your expensive 'tanky' marines get picked up by just about anything. The reasons aggressors, inceptors and eradicators are so much more playable is purely the extra 1 wound and extra 2 toughness, making them harder to wound and require 2 shots to kill most of the time.
I don't see these issues going away with just points changes, as the unit will be either broken or unplayable.
Space marine are really trash now
Seeing the poster boys at the bottom, my first thought was also that this could be a player type issue.
As a Necron player I totally agree that the codex need better internal balance. I wonder if GW will prevent Titanic units from benefiting from Hyperphase, or require a CP to phase them.
Internal balance wise, make C’tans more expensive and bring back the precodex Warrior and Reanimator and I think it would be in a pretty good place.
So long as the divergent Chapters are treated like 'Space Marines plus,' there's always going to be a balance problem with Astartes.
I'm a strong advocate of factions being as defined by what they don't have as what they do. Black Templars and Dark Angels have their own Veteran units (Sword Bretheren and Companions, respectively,) so perhaps shouldn't have access to Sternguard, Vanguard, or Bladeguard to balance this; Black Templars also don't traditionally make use of 'Devestator-type' units, so perhaps shouldn't have access to these. Of course, these units could be moved over to Legends for these Chapters in case players already have them.
On this same point, I don't have much issue with Sororitas being weaker against armour; on the other hand, they should absolutely shred horde infantry.
Single "balance"dataslate nerfs CSM, IK, GSC, custodes to the ground. 5 rounds of nerfs to Aeldari and they're still winning events. This is ridiculous
A huge part of Azrael's appeal (besides having one of the best models in the marine range) is that he makes certain infantry units viable; Hellblasters, Sternguard, and Assault Intercessors benefit hugely from being lead by Azzy. He effectively unlocks a more varied playstyle than the usual Infiltrator/Scout/Vindicator nonsense that marine players have a hard time moving away from (due to it being so superiror to the rest of the choices).
yay admech still getting stompered
Space Marines win rate is misleading because if you look at the detachment breakdown, they have a very good detachment and two fine detachments (win rate wise), but the others suck and drag down the stats. People playing lots of sub-optimal Space Marine lists for fluff and fun reasons is always going to happen and drag it down. Some internal balance to make the "bad" detachments better might be better and since they are the poster boys, I imagine they are more likely to have their detachments brought up whilst other factions will probably just be left to have bad detachments and tell players to take the good ones instead. There is also the divergent chapter drag where better players are taking Divergent chapters instead of classic SM which again weakens the pool of players a bit. Vanguard detachment is legitimately really solid and has the best rate of tournament wins : games played of any faction and a 9% 4-0 rate! So there's clearly a gradient of SM from very good to bad depending on what people are taking, not a surprise given their enormous selection of units.
Stats from just this weekend for classic Space marines are better, 45% overall with detachments going 53%,48%, 46%, 43%, 40%, 20%. So I think they are totally fine as a faction outside of the terminator and anvil detachments.
Also this weekend, five Ad Mech players played, and two of them won, so Ad Mech stats going to get massively skewed this weekend for sure lol. The faction is still terrible, but a god tier player like Siegler can still win with it, but he could probably win with just about anything.
Quick, double the points for all Custodes and increase the cost of Kill Teams more! That'll balance things better! :/
Citation for data sources?
As a Guard player there issue is cognitive load. They are a good army but they are pretty complicated making them hard to play for newer or more casual players.
Cron have been loads of fun, lots of ways to build strong fun lists.
Still not playing 40k any longer, and still watching Auspex just to see how my old Ad Mech and Thousand Sons are doing.
What is methodology for this? Where do you pull data from? It differs from official GW stat if I remember it correctly
Deathwatch "Three turns of useful damage boost"…nope. Two. Precision on crit hits is ridiculously bad on guys that hit on 3+ or even 2+.
And "Bolter units more interesting" and "Bolter damage dealers not that strong" are a pretty interesting ways of saying "bolters are absolute shite, but with SIA they are slightly better but still not good at all".
Auspex, have you noticed anyone playing as Agents of the Imperium? Curious what their stats look like, as I'm contemplating going that route. Thanks!
Imagine SM with 45% and you even nerf them to 41%. Shame
I'm playing champions of russ win 2 top 3 events in rtts which don't seem covered as much
Where does the data comes from? I don't find any new article on GW community about it.
i need to ask when next ballance patch coming out? this looks pretty bad 😀
Not wearing glasses while watching this and I saw Chode Chivalric at first. Starting the week off great!
RIP my Deathwatch
I really like deathwatch. The kill-teams are fun it sucks people don't like them.
Worryingly several of the low performing armies have codexes.
Auspex when imperium is on top 😇, auspex we any other faction (especially xenos) are on top 😡🤬😭😭
Things are in a decent space, was very surprised they didn't nerf C'tans last balance slate those things are way too good. Either points nerf for.them or limit 1 per army.
Easy way to buff tyranids would be to just fix the clinical errors of the codex from release. Keywords missing from certain models or rules that should be there that aren't.
The book was clearly not given the proper text comb over for errors or written by someone who didn't like Tyranids. The codex is filled with "almost combos" compared to marines that is almost nothing but combos
Grey knights are still not a good army I'm pretty sure gw is fudging the numbers based on a very small high performing players it's still extremely hard to use grey knights and their easily countered the true win rate is 33-45 on goon hammers out of 177 thousand games they have even had event losses were they haven't won't a game but gw completely ignores those you can make statistics appear any way you want if you don't want an army to perform . Grey knights are a very pale hollow imitation of what they were gw very much needs to fix this.
Grey knights are extremely boring
These videos are great for getting a glance at other armies without having to do a deep dive! Thank you Auspex!
dataslate was SHIT GW has no idea what they are doing
I just wish mono daemons where a bit more viable. Especially nurgle
How are Space Marines so bad? 3×6 Inceptors is stronger than most entire army's rules (not mine, I'm TSons).
