  1. Ok no.
God Of War have had a mature story since the start.

God Of War 1 literally starts with Kratos suffering from such crippling PTSD that he wants to die and jumps off a cliff.

One of the lesser known ones have gameplay be used brilliantly where you have to mash the circle button in order to push your dead daughter away.

Kratos has to use his entire strength in order to push a child away so he can return to the living world.

I think people see God of War 3 kratos who is completely beaten by the gods and take that as being the status quo since the very start. That is a Kratos who have been beaten so badly by everyone he thought he could trust that he did not care what happend, as long as the gods suffered.

God of War was mature from the start and I will not have this slander.

  2. Dragon Age: Inquisition is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. It's got a lot wrong with it and is nowhere near as good as Origins… but it still has an epic feel and plenty of characters to fall in love with. It's also not overwhelmingly bleak, unlike some other fantasy franchises.

  3. Last of us part 2 made me very angry when it won. Like yeah sure, it's a fine game, but holy hell doom eternal might be my favorite game of all time with how it far pushes the bar for fps games and what those games can even be.

  4. I’m happy things like company reputation or games that might’ve been better winning the award was more of a footnote in this video instead of being the basis of the argument. It’s a very welcome change of pace, especially the Last of Us Part 2 and Overwatch cases.

  5. Gaming is always a matter of personal taste. That said, I think it's fascinating when different awards shows go in completely wild directions. Like, the gaming BAFTAs have often given best game to less obvious contenders – Returnal, Hades, The Outer Wilds, What Remains of Edith Finch. They haven't always, but it does tend to pay more attention to indie games than AAA.

  6. Bioware at the peak of their powers? I'm sorry, but that is indisputably 2010, not 2014. There were alot of problems with the Frostbite engine, maybe not quite as high profile as in Andromeda, but it's still there in Inquisition.

Also, Overwatch 1 was made at a time when Blizzard was still mostly left alone to make their games and Activision wasn't taking such a heavy hand. Back before people like Jeff Kaplan left, and they grew more concerned with activism and virtue signaling than making good games. I'm sure there were elements there, but it wasn't the overwhelming parasite it is now.

  7. Good list for sure Rabbid, but I gotta be one of the ones to hype up Sekiro a little more than 7th place in all these.

Sekiro is one of the best single player experiences ever, and is borderline flawless. Art direction is incredible, combat is the best out of any game, it has the most consistently good FromSoft bosses, stealth mechanics are great (in a world that seriously lacks stealth games), the setting is wonderful, the areas are great. In my opinion, its the most consistently excellent FromSoft game, especially given the endgame issues with Elden Ring.

I’m a fan of all these games (except TLOU2), and I would confidently say Sekiro deserves top 3 next to Elden Ring and BOTW.

  8. I don’t understand why everyone keeps on acting as if the original god of war story isn’t “mature“. Sure it has gore filled moments but it’s a pretty rich story
