European athletes of the year crowned at Golden Tracks awards

Femke Bol, Armand Duplantis and Jakob Ingebrigtsen were the big winners at the Golden Tracks awards in Estonia on Saturday (October 22) night.
Dutchwoman Bol claimed the women’s European Athlete of the Year title, after an incredible performance at the European Athletics Championships.
At the meet in Munich, she won the 400m, 400m hurdles, and helped the Netherlands to gold in the 4x400m relay.
Duplantis and Ingebrigtsen shared the men’s European Athlete of the Year award, after dominant performances in 2022.
Sweden’s Duplantis broke the pole-vault world record three times over the course of the season, while Norway’s Ingebrigtsen set a world indoor 1500m record in Lievin, before going on to win five major medals.
Duplantis and Ingebrigtsen have matched each other throughout their careers, after also being jointly-named men’s Rising Star in 2018.
Greece’s Elina Tzengko, who competes in the javelin, and Lithuanian discus thrower Mykolas Alekna won the women’s and men’s Rising Star award this year.
In total, 25 European Athletics Member Federation Awards and 70 European Athletics Coaching Awards will be handed out this year.
The remaining recipients will receive their awards at ceremonies in their home countries at a later date.
The European Athlete of the Year trophy has been presented annually since 1993 and the Rising Star award was introduced in 2007.
