Today’s Puzzle:

Probably one of the trickiest Equality Cages puzzle yet with a new variant I have not come across before. Slow and steady hands though will uncover the mystery behind this puzzle!

Rules:

Normal Sudoku rules apply. Place the digits 1 through 9 in each empty cell. Digits must not repeat within the same row, column, or box.

Equality cages: Cages must have an equal number of low (1,2,3,4) and high (6,7,8,9) digits AND an equal number of even (2,4,6,8) and odd (1,3,7,9) digits. Equality cages can never contain 5. Digits may not repeat in a cage.

Kropki dots: A black dot between cells indicates cell values with a 2:1 ratio. A white dot between cells indicates cells with consecutive values. Not all dots are shown.

V: Adjacent cells connected with a V must sum to 5. Not all V’s are shown.

Multi-Renban: Digits along each multi-renban line contains one or multiple sets of consecutive digits in any order. Digits may repeat, but all digits on the line must repeat the same number of times. For example 624513, 668778 or 445545 would all be valid options for a 6-cell line.

  1. @1:27 "not fitting in with the cliques."

    Yeah, me too.
I went to several schools (I always seemed to be new to that school — even almost got in a fight when I accidentally showed-up all the guys in gym class — 6 called me out later in the locker room — I handled it — I used one thing from one person, and one thing from another person — we were all fast friends the next day).

Yeah, "cliques" weren't for me, also.

    Oh, memories now lol.
    Thanks, Slueth. 😂

  2. I can see that I made an error @ 36:30, looking for the correct path!

    Spoiler

The correct path is to determine that 7 in box 8 also has to be in row 9 (and this time definitely on the Renban).
Once you do so, you have only two options for the multi-renban, a 5, 6, 7 duplicate, or a 4-9 run
The equality cage in box 7 breaks if it’s 567!

  3. Amazing puzzle and solve Sleuth! I would like to see you attempt a 5* puzzle and also another live solve session. I know you have travelled a lot but where is your birth country Sleuth? Felt a bit sad that you said it was hard to find a group of similar people. You certainly have many “friends” in the sudoku community!

  4. Absolutely fantastic! I did suggest Multi-Renbans (the original puzzle by EFlatMinor) for your 1k sub stream – it's definitely one of my favorite puzzles ever – I'm hoping this got your eyes open to what a fantastic constraint it is. I haven't actually seen any other multi-renban puzzles on LMD, but if anyone spots one feel free to let me know here, I'd love to take a look. Lovely watch, Sleuth!

  5. At 40:15, what you were missing with the 79 in box 2 is that it isn't only an equality cage, but also a Renban. 9 isn't consecutive with 6. It had been available since around 28:00.

Enjoyed this one though, I got a similar time to you. Took me a lot longer to work out there wasn't an 8 on the biggest Renban.

  6. Yeah, Slueth.
I just noticed someone saying "there's a 6 on that renban in box2," so the 9 can't be there.
The 5&9s are now fixable in box2.

    And a 67 in that cage/renban.
That puts the 5s snd 7s in box8 (top and bottom — a 57 pair).
The 7s in box7&9 are in the top&middle, so the 7 in box8 is on the bottom (x-wing in boxes7&9 in others words).

Slowly for me, but that did it.

60 or so minutes, but fun.

  7. Super super hard for me. But that doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy it.

Of course I need your help to solve, the most basic stuff, because the "hard" part I was already thinking for 20min. But if I had done the easy part first, the hard part would not be so hard!! 😅

Anyway, I like this concept and the interaction between the rules! Super great puzzle for a saturday! 🎉
