Episode 1 Review With Special TERRY MATALAS Picard Season 3 Showrunner Breakdown Included!

The third and final season of Star Trek: Picard boldly goes where the previous seasons did not by delivering the long-awaited reunion of most of The Next Generation cast. In Episode 1, Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) receives a dire message from Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) which leads him to team up with Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) on a rescue mission that sends them to the edges of Federation space. The phenomenal episode ties up a few loose ends that were introduced at the start of the series—and a few that date back to Star Trek: Nemesis—all the while laying the groundwork for the series’ titular character to face something he’s never faced before.

  1. I'm going to be honest: All the TOS callbacks in a show that is derived from TNG, is an epic Eyeroll. We already have TOS callbacks in Strange New Worlds…picard should be strictly a dedication to TNG.

Thus, the Titan shouldn't have been a Neo-Constitution class…it should have been a Neo-Galaxy class. (eyeroll).

  2. Overall, a good start. Exterior shots were beautiful. The soundtrack was perfect. Dialog was good. However, the interior lighting was waaaay too dark. I hope there is a plot reason for this and we eventually get the proper lighting the cast deserves. That's one thing that doesn't fit the TNG vibe and it was the thing that bothered me about the last TNG movies.

  3. I liked this episode, It had its issues that some may say im nitpicking but especially the Power Cell crap lol, Im excited for episode 2 but to be honest I liked the first episodes of season 1 and 2 as well and the story went to crap after that. Ive heard some things about the rest of the series that gives me hope and will continue to watch.

  4. This first episode was AMAZING. I loved every minute of it and wanted more! Please TV gods – if there are any more seasons after this one – let Terry Matalas write and produce all of them. 👏

  5. Nice video and very informative. Definitely gets a thumbs up. I like how you say that Picard is more like he was in TNG, than in the previous two seasons. Also love the dynamic between Ryker and Picard and the early dynamic of Picard and Aires. Great Great first episode and great podcast.

  6. This seemed a lot more like the classic motif we all know and love, without being a copy of it. This is the best season of any star trek show I've seen in a long time. I really hope terry keeps working with trek.

  7. How does Beverlys distress call end the relationship between Picard and Laris?? If anything, it lends to how strong it is because Laris tells him he has to go without letting her ego or selfishness interfere! She even says "these are the lives we chose", implying that they sometimes have to make sacrifices because of their choices & who they are. She loves him for that. She's not going to hold it against him. It might be an inconvenient situation, but It's a mature & adult realization of what needed to be done. That being Picard honoring his loyalty & the family bonds with his old crewmates. Doing the right thing as hes always done. But this doesn't kill their relationship! He's certainly not looking to pick up with Beverly where they left off! That ship SAILED. Decades ago! I just don't see how you got that idea that the relationship with Picard & Laris was done..

  8. Possibly the most excited that I have been for live action NuTrek since Strange New Worlds. This promises to be the last best hope for the franchise, and it may well launch a new renaissance of sorts. For the record, I am rooting for the success of Terry Trek.
