  1. Personal note on the "hole in the bottom of the boat" jump scare.
I went with my Father to see it, first weekend out.
    He screamed.
    Loud.
    I was horrified.
It scared me, too, but…….. I was just horrified that my Dad freaking screamed.
    GA visit??
    Hell, yes! Bring it on!!!

  2. Saw Jaws in theater when it first came out. Don't need to see it again because it was so good.
Tremors I could watch every year. Might add it to NYD disaster comedies marathon.

  3. In the book, Benchley goes into some pretty gruesome details about what is happening under the water with Krissy and the shark… makes that scene with her even more horrific…

  4. They should make a movie about the making of Jaws.. The story behind the movie is as epic as the movie.. OK, hear me out, Mel Gibson as Robert Shaw.. Shia LaBeouf as Steven Spielberg.. Thats all I have. ๐Ÿ˜† Who else?

Fun. But, also sad. So many sharks have been killed due to irrational fear of them pushed by the novel and movie.

  6. First time I saw Jaws was the night we moved to a beach. Seven years old. My parents had a bit of a sick sense of humor. Still went swimming the next day though and even got comfortable as a kid swimming around sharks. Just avoided things like murky water and swimming between dusk and dawn.

Completely agreed with the fear of the unknown it captures though, and recognizing I'm out of my element in the water. That's why I'm happier swimming in a clear ocean during the day with clearly visible sharks than I am swimming in a murky lake or river in an area with alligators/snakes/snapping turtles/etc.

Edit to add note since Wes mentioned them: barracudas scare me more than most things in the water, but agreed on bull sharks. They can have whatever they're swimming in, I'll go somewhere else.

  7. A couple years ago, somebody pointed out a question that I never considered, in the hundreds of times I've seen this movie – Hooper has a huge boat, bigger than the Orca. Why didn't they take his boat? Or both boats?

  8. Some of that alternate casting is fascinating. I could have seen Duvall as Brody, but not Jeff Bridges at that time – this was years before Tron, guy was a baby face. Heston would have been all wrong for Brody, but could have worked for Quint.

  9. The Shallows (2016) is the movie with Blake Lively. Very surprising movie. Did not expect it to be as good as it was.
Just looked up The Reef. Apparently it is a 2010 Australian movie. Never heard of it. Not sure if that is the movie that you were thinking for your list or if you were actually thinking The Shallows?
