An open heaven is a spiritual portal. It can also be defined as a gate, window, door, etc. Everything God does, He does it under an open heaven. When the heavens are open that is when we work by faith. Working by faith brings the invisible to the visible. It brings things from the spiritual dimension to the natural dimension, from the supernatural to the natural.
“Then Jesus said to them again, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.’” – John 10:7
Only God has the power to open heavens and it is up to us to maintain the heavens open.
A portal, or open heavens, can be seen in a person or a place such as the house of God.
“Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, ‘Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.’ And he was afraid and said, ‘How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!’” – Genesis 28:16-17
How do you know you are walking under open heavens?
You have encounters with God.
You feel God’s presence.
It takes you from walking in the natural to the supernatural.
Things happen effortlessly.
You receive revelation, finances, miracles and breakthroughs.
You work under peace, rest, and abundance.
There are portals to hell
There are things in the world that act as portals to hell such as people, cities, and countries. Every portal to evil has two factors: fear and perversion.
“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it”. – Matthew 16:18
There are people that come to your life that are portals to hell. If those people are influencing you to disobey God, or pull you away from Him, those people are considered gates to hell. The longer you keep those people sound you, the longer the gate to hell will be open to you.
An example in the Bible is when Jacob stole his brother’s inheritance, which opened the gates to hell in his life.
How to sustain open heavens
Sacrifice
“You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” – 1 Peter 2:5
We see throughout the Scriptures, whenever a sacrifice took place, portals would open. There must be a sacrifice in order to keep the heavens open. A sacrifice can be your time, finances, service, prayer, fasting, worship, praise, etc.
If it’s not a sacrifice to you, it’s not a sacrifice to God. Things don’t just happen, you have to do your part and make sacrifices. When you stop sacrificing, the portals close.
Offerings
“‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.’” – Malachi 3:10
Offerings determine what God decides to pour out to you. Many people are waiting for God to pour out blessings, but they never gave any sacrifice or offerings to God. Your offering will determine if God will pour out 30% or 60% of blessings.
“But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” – Matthew 13:23
People think once they receive their breakthrough and miracle, the heavens will remain open, even if they stop sacrificing. But only continuous giving will produce continuous open heavens.
