End of Summer Trip

Time to head up the cabin for a few days now that summer is coming to a close. It will be hot for a few more weeks, but the thoughts of cool weather ahead can mean only one thing, my favorite seasons are right around the corner.
First a quick stop to meet stop to meet the Chairman and drop some backpacking equipment off to him, then up the Turnpike to the cabin. Was greeted by some cooler temps, so up to the landing area to check on the clover. It’s not doing too bad, some bare spots, but put some more seed down and hopefully it will take. Swapped out a game camera so I can keep an eye on the clover growth and deer activity.
Cooked up some bison burgers for a quick and easy dinner, then out on the deck to enjoy the rest of the afternoon.
Monday morning brought rain, which I didn’t mind too much since I just put that seed down. Cooked up some ham and eggs, with hash browns for a good breakfast.
Put up a small metal sign with the US Army logo, an eagle, an olive branch, and stars to honor our Armed Service members. Did a few more things, then it was on to a great cooked up dinner. Tomahawk ribeye reverse seared on the on grill. A baked potato and a salad completed this great tasting dinner.
Tuesday I went down to my stand and put a few more screws in to make sure I don’t get any squeaking while I’m in there at Deer Camp. Some more camo painting also, put the last of the clover seed down on some trails around the stand.
Put up a couple Challenge coins that I received, and one pin in the Blue Pot Cafe.
Swapped out all the batteries in the game cameras, so we now have about five there covering the property.
Some left over ribeye for dinner hit the spot.

  3. Always good to spend 2 Days in the Valley. Another great solo trip, I enjoy your cabin runs so much!

Very sorry about George. I've only had one pet in my life, and he was an Orange Maine Coon. He got diagnosed with kidney failure at 14 years old. Near the end I prayed to God that I wouldn't have to put him down. Two hours before we took him to the vet for that fateful visit, he died in my arms in 2019 at 14 years 11 months. Miss him a lot.

  4. Sorry to hear about George. Lost my furry orange buddy Charlie this past autumn. It’s brutal to go through but things will get better, sir. Just takes time. Hang in there. He looked like a proper gentleman. 😊

  6. So sorry for your loss, pets are like members of the family.
I think that’s why I always say no more pets isn’t because I don’t want them it’s because it’s hard when you lose them.
God Bless Rook and I’ll see you on your next video

  8. Thanks for bringing us Tom. It’s always nice to get little odds and ends accomplished. Glad to see your camera ordeal is sorting itself out. Technology is an interesting thing to say the least. My heart goes out to you and Mrs. Rook about losing your companion and buddy George. I hope all other things are well with you and your family. It’s getting closer to deer season I can hardly wait. Until next time bud. Take care!

  9. Really enjoyed the summer video Tom until my heart sank at the end. I didn't know what to expect… possibly that this was going to be the last video till buck season?? I surely wasn't prepared for news of the loss of your beloved friend. Our pets are family and offer such unconditional love and attention. Losing them is extremely hard but I hope you & the Mrs. find comfort in remembering all the good times with George. Will certainly miss him for sure.

The videos are always a fun adventure and we appreciate you bringing us all along, don't ever think they aren't exciting or interesting. The small odd and ends at camp are part of what makes being at camp so special! Send me a text or stop by… especially if it's raining like that and we're all just stuck inside or under the patio during those extended rain outs.. you know where we're at!

Again, Tom, so sorry for your loss.

  10. Tom, Sorry for your loss of George. I have lost some cats, dogs and horses over the years that I still miss and think about often. The pain fades over time, but the memories remain. Bittersweet on the end of summer trip…don't like to see summer end, but that means hunting cabin videos will be here soon. It was nice to see the quick visit with the Chairman. I hope he enjoys his adventure.

  11. Hello, Just checking in to see how you two are doing after the death of your beloved cat. We know this has hit you hard. Please do not think you are weak because you are in mourning for an animal. They are a gift from God—showing His unconditional love …It may take awhile to begin to feel better. We have both of you in prayers, and under His wings, for peace. (No reply needed, just wanted to let you know that folks care for both of you)

  12. Been watching your videos since 2018. Really enjoy them. You drive right through where I grew up and where I live now about 20 minutes east of Buckhorn. The only complaint I have is the long time between videos. Any short, simple video of anything I would watch and find interesting. Sorry about your cat. We lost our dog two years ago, and everyone took it pretty hard. Well, thanks for all the videos, and looking forward to the next one.
